Canadian, privately controlled company operating out of Brampton, Ontario.
We haul and process used passenger, truck, industrial and agricultural tires. We
are committed to preventing these end-of-life products from being disposed of
in our landfills or littered on our natural landscapes. As a result of processing used tires, we have become a leading
supplier of crumb rubber which can be transformed into many fantastic recycled
products, such as road asphalt, playgrounds, and synthetic turf.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant and hauling operations at our tire processing and recycling facility in Brampton, Ontario. This onsite role oversees a team of 2 Managers (Production and Maintenance), Dispatch Leader, which included hauling oversite, guiding the team in ensuring the efficient running of production, logistics, maintenance, environmental compliance, safety, and continuous improvement. This role acts as a change agent whose purpose is to drive change while ensuring that the plant operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with Ontario's environmental and occupational health regulations while meeting corporate goals for quality, cost, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership- Lead day-to-day operations of the tire recycling and processing plant, including shredding, granulation, steel and fibre separation, and end-product quality control.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the operations, hauling, dispatch, and logistics teams.
- Develop and implement programs to optimize productivity, reduce downtime, and improve overall plant efficiency.
- Oversee procurement and inventory management for raw materials (tires), spare parts, and consumables.
- Advancing our operational data gathering, reporting, and monitoring to support a more data-driven organization—one that prioritizes transparency, continuous improvement, and accountability.
- Manage relationships with waste tire suppliers, transportation partners, and oversee the sales and marketing plan to customers for end-product.
- Build relationships with key customers to find opportunities for collaboration and win-win
- Ensure full compliance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations, Ministry of Transportation, Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA) guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and Ministry of Labour (MOL), requirements.
- Adhering to local fire regulations and fostering a strong, positive relationship with the local fire department are essential to ETR's success.
- Champion a strong safety culture; oversee training, incident investigation, and corrective actions.
- Lead, coach, and develop onsite leadership staff.
- Establish clear performance metrics, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage the operations budget, including cost control, capital expenditures, and resource allocation.
- Monitor key financial indicators (e.g. cost per tonne of tires collected and processed, downtime, route efficiency, labour cost, and energy usage,) and implement efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with finance to forecast and track production costs, revenue, and profitability.
- Identify new technologies and process improvements to increase throughput, reduce energy consumption, and enhance material recovery rates.
- Support corporate strategy by providing insights on market trends, equipment upgrades, and capacity expansion opportunities.
- Act as primary contact for regulatory bodies, auditors, and community stakeholders.
- Represent the company at industry associations and environmental forums related to tire recycling and circular economy initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical), Industrial Management, Environmental Science, Business Degree, or related field (MBA or PMP considered are required for this role).
- Minimum 10+ years in recycling, manufacturing or related field, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience managing large-scale industrial plants or recycling facilities in Canada.
- Knowledge of tire processing, material recovery technologies, or waste management systems is considered a strong asset.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience in leading in a highly diverse environment.
- Excellent knowledge of process optimization, maintenance systems, and production planning.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets.
- Demonstrated expertise in mathematical analysis and advanced Excel functions.
- Deep understanding of Ontario environmental and recycling regulations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.
- On-site at the tire processing/recycling facility.
- Exposure to industrial environments (noise, dust, machinery).
- May require occasional travel within Ontario for supplier, customer, or regulatory meetings
