This role is with a large provincial electric utility responsible for operating and maintaining critical transmission and distribution infrastructure across the province. The organization supports high-voltage systems, grid reliability, and major capital programs, and is known for long-term stability and complex engineering work.

About the Role

We are seeking Senior Specialist Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineers to support commissioning acceptance, technical oversight, and subject-matter expertise for transmission and distribution substations. This is a senior-level, hands-on role combining field work, technical reviews, fault investigations, and collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide commissioning acceptance services for P&C equipment across transmission and distribution substations.
  • Review and support P&C testing, commissioning, and system integration activities.
  • Perform field reviews of P&C installations and modifications and validate commissioning documentation.
  • Investigate abnormal system conditions and major power system disturbances.
  • Conduct fault analysis and support resolution of complex system issues.
  • Author, review, and recommend updates to P&C commissioning and maintenance standards.
  • Act as a P&C subject matter expert supporting project teams and field technologists.
  • Prepare technical documentation, operating procedures, and commissioning reports.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary technical committees and working groups.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of Protection & Control commissioning experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC, or eligible for registration.
  • Strong knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices.
  • Proven experience working in a field environment, including fault analysis and investigations.
  • Demonstrated technical writing, presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate English proficiency for a professional environment, written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel to construction sites as required.
