As the province's largest energy provider with more than 100 years of knowledge and experience, we proudly deliver renewable energy, natural gas, electricity and propane to 1.3 million customers.

We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of delivering a stronger energy future in B.C. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,800 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview
You're a strong leader able to support a team to advance decarbonization and meet compliance and reporting requirements. You thrive in both independent and collaborative work environments, leveraging the strengths of each to find innovative solutions to problems that drive our business forward.

As a Manager, Carbon Management, you'll manage a team of professionals as a subject matter expert on all things related to greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and compliance. Reporting to Director, Decarbonization and Sustainability, this position focuses on ensuring regulatory and non-regulatory compliance requirements associated with GHG reporting are met.

The role also coordinates FortisBC's activities on Scope 1 emissions reduction. In this capacity you will work collaboratively with operations, facilities, fleet and regulatory departments to advance work on Scope 1 GHG reduction analysis and reporting.

So, if you're ready to roll up your sleeves and make a real impact, join us in transforming B.C.'s energy future.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team and develop team members to contribute towards FortisBC's GHG reporting and compliance requirements and towards strategic initiatives to reduce GHG emissions.
  • Become a subject matter expert on sources of GHG emissions within the organization by developing an in-depth understanding of the various asset types (distribution, transmission, liquid natural gas), operational activities and processes, and GHG quantification techniques related to these assets.
  • Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of external and internal stakeholders, ensuring all regulatory and non-regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Take the lead on driving strategic initiatives forward, including grant writing, GHG reduction technologies, and technical support on major projects, financial initiatives, and other carbon management systems within the organization.
  • Refine existing GHG quantification models and processes for data collection, tracking, and management. Additionally, you will provide support for forecasting and analyzing GHG emissions.
  • Collaborate with other natural gas utilities on the development of GHG quantification and reduction technology for the natural gas distribution sector.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor's degree in science or engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university, plus a minimum of eight to 10 years of recent and related experience.
  • A professional designation such as professional engineer, certified professional accountant, professional chemist, or in a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education, related training, and experience may be considered.
  • A detail-oriented approach to your work with the ability to process large volumes of data and translate it into meaningful items.
  • Experience with GHG quantification and modeling software such as OpenLCA, GHGenius, Workiva, or HIS Sphera.
  • A demonstrated ability to conduct research to resolve problems related to the quantification of GHG emissions or savings for Major Projects, Engineering and operations, and carbon trading programs.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
