MAIN FUNCTIONS:

Reporting to the Preclinical Laboratory Manager, the intern will support the LHS research program by aiding in day-to-day activities of the lab, including but not limited to:

• General microbiology and bacterial culture.
• Cell culture models. This would include working with Caco-2, HT-29, and HMVII cells. The selected intern would assist in a number of projects ranging from adhesion assays, inflammation studies, and gut permeability/tight junction investigations, with the potential to have independent projects as well.
• Flow Cytometry for bacteria viability and cell quantification
• Western Blot Assays for Protein Quantification
• Use of liquid handling robots (Opentron OT-2 and FLEX)
• Method development and validations
• SOP and scientific reports writing

TECHNICAL SKILL & QUALIFICATIONS:

· Year 1 of Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences (biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, etc), or engineering (Chemical, Biomedical, Bioengineering).

· Knowledge of good laboratory practices and Biological Safety 1 and 2 regulations.

· Laboratory Experience (University Laboratories included) - Mandatory

· Some background in microbiology - Asset

· Experience in Cell Culture work - Asset

· Good knowledge of English and French (oral and written).

· Ability to work within a team and independently.

· This position will be for 8 months

FONCTIONS PRINCIPALES:

Relevant du Gestionnaire de laboratoire préclinique, le stagiaire effectuera des tâches pour supporter les activités journalières dans le laboratoire préclinique. Ces tâches comprendront, mais ne seront pas nécessairement limité à:

· Microbioogie générale et culture bactériennes.

· Culture cellulaire. Cela inclurait le travail avec les cellules Caco-2, HT-29, HMVII et FaDu. Le stagiaire sélectionné participerait à un certain nombre de modèles allant des tests d'adhésion aux études sur l'inflammation et aux enquêtes sur la perméabilité intestinale et les jonctions serrées.

· Cytométrie en flux pour la viabilité des bactéries et la quantification cellulaire

· PCR quantitatif en temps réel (qPCR).

· Rédaction de protocoles normalisés et de rapports scientifiques.

TECHNICAL SKILL & QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum 1 an de Baccalauréat en Sciences de la vie (biologie, biochimie, immunologie, microbiologie, etc), ou Génie Chimique.

· Connaissance des bonnes pratiques de laboratoire et des règles de sécurité en laboratoire (Niveau de sécurité biologique 1 et 2).

· Expérience de travail en laboratoire (incluant laboratoires universitaires) - Requis

· Connaissances en microbiologie - Atout

· Expérience dans le travail de culture cellulaire - Atout

· Bonne connaissance de l'anglais et du français (oral et écrit).

· Capable de bien travailler en équipe et de manière autonome.

· Ce poste sera d'une durée de 8 mois.
