Payworks develops proprietary, integrated SaaS-based products in the payroll, human resources and time and attendance space. We create, deploy and maintain our own solutions; this requires a talented team of Developers who are excellent critical thinkers, problem solvers and are driven to create products that work better. Individual drive and team collaboration are the keys to success; we feel that exceptional and inventive development comes naturally to teams that are having fun and working together. Reporting to the Team Leader, the Software Developer will be responsible for developing software solutions for new and existing clients. The development of these innovative solutions is designed to meet our clients' unique business needs. You will get the chance to work with our top-notch team to build out and connect various interfaces, including mobile interfaces, to our Service Based Architecture.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Post-Secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Approximately 3-5 years of experience as a Software Developer or in a similar position.
  • Proven experience with coding solutions in a modern procedural language such as C#, Java or C++. 
  • Hands-on experience with both established (e.g., monolithic architectures, older MVC frameworks) and modern technologies (e.g., microservices, containerized environments, cloud-native architectures).
  • Demonstrated expertise in refactoring and migrating codebases to modern frameworks (e.g., migrating from AngularJS to React, .NET Framework to .NET Core, or on-premise to cloud).
  • Proven ability to independently triage and resolve complex technical issues across distributed systems, including performance bottlenecks, architectural flaws, and integration challenges.
  • Solid understanding and application of secure coding practices (e.g., input validation, output encoding, least privilege, secure session handling).
  • Practical experience identifying and mitigating OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and implementing defense-in-depth strategies across the software stack.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic SQL queries; experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL Queries is an asset.
  • Experience using a source control system and a debugging tool.
  • Openness to receiving constructive feedback and a desire to continuously improve ones own skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft .NET Core (C#), Microsoft .NET (VB), ASP.NET is an asset but not required. 
  • Experience with HTML and modern front-end frameworks and technologies such as , CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript is an asset but not required.
  • Experience with JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence and other Atlassian tools is an asset.
  • Experience using Git version control is an asset but not required.
  • Experience using build and packaging tools such as MSBuild/dotnet, Webpack and Grunt is an asset but not required.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment is an asset.

The Software Developer has the option to work fully out of the Payworks head office in Winnipeg office or on a hybrid work model, working in the office at least three (3) days a week. This role may require participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
