Hours: Monday-Friday, 5:30am – 2pm (possibility of overtime and weekends)

Wage: $23.00/hr

Focus

The primary focus of the Food Safety Coordinator is to provide leadership and instruction in the area of Food Safety. This position mitigates safety risk through programs that provide safe food to customers and ensures compliance of all applicable food and health and safety regulations. This role partners with supply chain/distribution operations and sales to provide consultation support.

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for leading and delivering a strong food safety and health and safety culture at Sun Processing
• Working with the on-site management team to ensure compliance to regulations, company standards, and customer expectations
• Responsible for conducting daily pre-operational inspections, and communicating findings and corrective actions to the team
• Assist with coordinating and/or delivering employee training
• Assist with maintaining the corrective action program to reduce the occurrence of repeat deficiencies/deviations in ensuring effectiveness and continuous improvement of the OHS and Food Safety Program
• Assist during regulatory, third party and customer-related audits
• Collect and coordinate environmental samples
• Assists in incident management process in investigations, root cause analysis of incidents and reporting
• Conduct inspections to identify workplace hazards and Health & Safety violations
• Additional related duties may be assigned as this position evolves.

Key Attributes and Skills

• HACCP certification preferred
• Food Safety training preferred
• OHS training preferred
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
• Knowledge and understanding of OHS and Food Safety Regulations and best practices
• Must be a high-performance team player and be willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fast-paced environment
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Must be a self-starter with strong supervisory and leadership skills

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum 3-5 years of food-safety or quality assurance related experience
• Prior experience with OHS is preferred

Working Conditions

• Work is conducted indoors in a warehouse environment and can be subject to temperature conditions Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
• Work outside ordinary office hours (including weekends, evenings and holidays) may be required

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing
• Frequent lifting, carrying of up to 50lbs
• Ability to work in a cooler environment
