About us:

The MAN VAN is Canada's first mobile men's health clinic offering PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing used for early detection of prostate cancer.

The MAN VAN is looking to hire Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our MAN VAN Edmonton team. The MAN VAN is a mobile PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing unit that travels around Alberta bringing awareness and baseline PSA testing to men. In addition to the PSA test, we often provide other health measurements at clinics including blood pressure, blood glucose, waist circumference and mental wellness checks. We are looking for a unique blend of characteristics. We like our team to be upbeat, cheerful while still detailed oriented and precise when it comes to following SOPs. This is a casual position and the number of clinics assigned to you depends on how many are booked through our partners in the community as well as your availability. Our MAN VAN Program consists of clinics in and around the Edmonton area, day trips to specific locations, and rural overnight stays for multi-day clinics.

About the Position

Every clinical staff member is committed to the vision of the MAN VAN which includes increasing public awareness on the topic of PSA testing, early detection and treatment. Clinical staff members will perform laboratory testing, biometrics and a mental wellness questionnaire with clients who attend MAN VAN clinics. Every clinical staff member will follow outlined SOPs while promoting a positive client experience on the MAN VAN through demonstrating excellent customer service to the men utilizing our baseline testing Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draw for PSA
  • Perform point of care blood collection for blood glucose
  • Perform blood pressure reading using automatic BP machine
  • Measure client's waist circumference
  • Provide PHQ9 questionnaire and score to client
  • Provide education on tests performed
  • Demonstrate a positive approach to education
  • Show sensitivity to clients
  • Demonstrate a sense of humor
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients
  • Other duties as required (pick-up and delivery duties)
  • Disinfection of equipment

Occupational Health & Safety:

  • Protecting their own and others' health and safety at or in the vicinity of the work site
  • Co-operating with their employer or supervisor by following health and safety rules for the job
  • Using all hazard controls and wearing personal protective equipment designated or provided by the employer
  • Refraining from causing or participating in harassment and violence
  • Reporting health and safety concerns and conditions to their employer or supervisor
  • Co-operating with any person exercising a duty under the occupational health and safety legislation
  • Complying with the occupational health and safety legislation

Education:

  • Active practice permit with College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (may be completed upon hire)
  • WHMIS (may be completed upon hire)
  • Phlebotomy skills an asset
  • Minimum of 1 year in healthcare is an asset

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must have valid driver's license and reliable independent means of transportation
  • Must be able to travel including overnight stays for Rural clinics
