Electrical Design Engineer

Brainhunter is currently seeking " Electrical Design Engineer" to work for our valued Client. It's a one - year contract located in Tiverton , Ontario.
Accountabilities of the position are as follows:
- Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
- Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team.
- Provide electrical power distribution design and analysis for operating nuclear and other industrial plants.
- Perform condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators and other power plant equipment.
- Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs.
- Perform engineering change design and analysis following established Engineering Change Control procedures.
- Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection.
- Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (
i.e.
, from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. - Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
- Provide technical guidance/direction on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate.
- Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
- Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Stay current with developments within your field of expertise.
- Regular travel/visits to client sites in Durham region is required as well as occasional travel within the GTA.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
- 5+ years' experience in electrical design engineering.
- A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering.
- Proven track record in electrical design and analysis in electrical power distribution, including application to nuclear plants.
- Strong knowledge of generating station power upgrades including necessary system protection/system stability and relaying.
- Experience in performing condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators and other power plant equipment.
- Knowledge of the life cycle management of electrical equipment.
- In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plant and conventional plants.
- Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plant (Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power or other) systems & processes,
e.g.
Engineering Change Control is an asset. - Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
- Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
- Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusions.
- Assist in development of proposals and negotiation of contracts with clients.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead complex and/or multi-discipline projects.
- Innovative, enthusiastic and ready to be part of our dynamic team.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
- Must be motivated by working with engineering professionals committed to producing timely and high-quality technical work.
- Ability to work under pressure and be a team player.
- OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.
