Position Summary
Charge Technologist, Medical Imaging, Coordinator, Ontario Breast Screening Program
Your goal in this position is to aid the patient throughout the screening and diagnostic journey ensuring all information is available to patients when they need it while minimizing the time intervals along the full continuum of care. It is also to perform imaging examinations in the imaging modality of Mammography that meet the established standards of the Department, CMRITO and the Ontario Breast Screening Program. You are to provide overall leadership and ensure work assignments are organized appropriately in the modality of Mammography in Medical Imaging. You will be expected to be the technical expert and resource for other technologists in the modality. You have excellent organizational and time management skills, and communicate appropriately, accurately, and effectively with patients, families and the health care delivery team. You have professional judgement, analytical ability, resourcefulness, ability to manage conflicts in an appropriate and effective manner as well as excellent problem-solving skills. You also have a high degree of professionalism, and competency to function as an individual practitioner in a position requiring initiative and the ability to assess and perform the duties of the position with limited supervision.
On a practical level, you will
• Perform all imaging examination as required
• Facilitate patient flow and ensure work assignments are organized, this includes staff scheduling
• Provide overall leadership and technical expertise to include training, troubleshooting and problem solving
• Ensure equipment is appropriately serviced and maintained
• Assist the Radiologists when required
• Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the Department of Medical Imaging at North York General Hospital
• Participate in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for patients, staff and visitors
• Demonstrate commitment to on-going learning and professional development
• Be responsible for maintaining current knowledge of ongoing advancements in the field of Breast Imaging
• Support, guide and monitor the patient by facilitating access to appropriate tests and specialized clinical professionals and ensuring guidelines for high quality care at every stage
• Help educate and prepare the patient for genetics counseling and testing, mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI tests and interventional procedures
• Support the triage of breast imaging requests as per evidence based departmental protocols including the coding of breast MRI referrals
• Liaise with the Genetics and Breast Centre departments to ensure appropriate timing of all patient testing
• Develop working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
• Prepare and lead presentations to the key regional stakeholders to promote the Ontario Breast Screening Program
• Accept and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Current Registration with CMRITO
• Minimum of 5 years current experience as a Breast Imaging Technologist with OBSP
• Completed certificates in Breast Imaging – Screening and Breast Imaging – Diagnostic
• Flexibility in working hours as dictated by the needs of the program
• Familiarity with all other Medical Imaging modalities
• Basic computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office
• Evidence of enhanced assessment skills and demonstrated clinical knowledge in the area of breast health, breast cancer treatments and psychosocial impact of disease
• Experience with the development and implementation of effective patient care education programs targeted at patients and families
• Understanding of adult education strategies and advanced therapeutic communication techniques
• Awareness of OBSP database and indicator reporting
• Knowledge of collaborative spaces (SharePoint, Excel spreadsheets) and genetics counseling an asset
• Knowledge of Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario Wait Time Strategy, Wait Times Information System
