Position Summary

A New Tomorrow supports both adult and youth divisions of practice to deliver exceptional treatment services to individuals recovering from substance misuse with an interdisciplinary team dedicated to transforming lives.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the Social Worker, is responsible for providing 1:1 client support and delivery of psychoeducational groups using various applied treatment modalities to address addiction and mental health challenges. The Social Worker is expected to engage with clients within the scope of practice and ensure all practice standards are being met. This position is responsible for the duties listed below:

Client-Centered Care

  • Build therapeutic rapport with applicants by using motivational interviewing skills.
  • Provide brief and solution-focused 1:1 emotional support.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups; support co-facilitation & encourage client participation in programs.
  • Offer crisis management and stabilization support to clients.
  • Assist with facilitation of new client intake and collaborate on waitlist management.
  • Conduct screening assessments using the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria to identify client needs and suitability in receiving supports from ANT.
  • Gather and obtain collateral information to support in identifying suitability for services, from all parties including but not limited to; family, community agencies/partners, hospitals, withdrawal management facilities, and community clinicians.
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with medical detox facilities to ensure clients receive withdrawal management supports prior to attending ANT.
  • Provide applicants and families community resources and/or alternate treatment recommendations in relation to substance use and mental health.
  • Assess and complete suicide risk assessments as appropriate
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction and have an understanding of income opportunities available for applicants
  • Participate in program development, support development and implementation of Care Plan, attend weekly conferences to review and re-evaluate as necessary.
  • Contribute to discharge planning, addressing housing, finances, after care services and transitioning back to the community support.
  • Maintain client records and detailed client documentation, including daily contact logs, Care Plans, Transition Plan and Discharge Summary in accordance with standards.
  • Adhere to care plans, promoting client-centered, strength-based, trauma-informed holistic approach treatment recovery.
  • Promote inclusive interactions respecting LGBTQ2+, cultural, racial, religious, and minority sensitivities.
  • Promote a client centered, strength based, trauma informed holistic approach to treatment.
  • Maintain client documentation complying with Registration & Licensing standards.
  • Ensure commitment to confidentiality is maintained utilizing the guidelines of the Personal Information Act of BC and governing body regulations.
  • Ensure a safe environment by identifying health & safety concerns both inside and outside the residences and reporting to the Facilities Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to ANT Client-Centered, Human Resources & Medication related Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Build trust, innovation and creative strategies for the team in support of delivering exceptional treatment services.
  • Communicate clearly & effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Stay open to reflecting, debriefing, and processing distressing events or vicarious trauma.
  • Participate in annual performance review including development of professional goals accepting constructive criticism in spirit of performance improvement; maintain an open mind to coaching and mentoring.
  • Attend regular meetings identifying requirements, areas of success, areas of need/improvement, and trends impacting service delivery.
  • Take part in training and opportunity for skill development and enhancement.
  • Exhibit continuous learning to enhance existing skills and develop competencies.
  • Engage in team building activities fostering positive and effective communication.
  • Take part in problem solving, conflict resolution and collaboration with co-workers and clients.
  • Assist with reflection, debriefing, and processing distressing thoughts and vicarious trauma.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Active registration & designation in good standing with valid BC provincial practicing license with the British Columbia College of Social Workers
  • Experience working with clients in addiction, mental health, and recovery.
  • Excellent administrative, time management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Current Class 5 Driver's License
  • Current First Aid & CPR with AED certification
  • Naloxone Administration certification
  • WHIMS certification
  • Addictions Care and Treatment Online certification
  • Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
  • Competent with Microsoft Office
  • Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment
  • Other training as required
Experience

Preferred

  • 1 year(s): Experience working with clients in addiction, mental health, and recovery.
Education

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or better in Social Work or related field
