Fisher Wavy is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Ready-Mix Truck Driver and Concrete Pump Operator in the Thunder Bay, Ontario area. This is a full-time seasonal position with competitive wages and a benefits package.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Mix and deliver concrete to customers on a timely basis according to ticket instructions.
  • Set up, use and maintain tools and equipment associated with concrete pumps mounted on trucks including assembling concrete chutes and operating chute controls during pour.
  • Safely set up and operate the conveyor belt system located on the truck.
  • Safely set up and operate the truck-mounted concrete pump system, including boom setup, hose placement, priming, pumping , and cleanup.
  • Visually inspect mix, slump and verify load size.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including the amount of concrete delivered, the time of delivery and any other pertinent information.
  • Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections of the pump and delivery systems to identify and report any maintenance issues.
  • Communicate necessary information to dispatcher.
  • Communicate with other workers, using signals, radios, to start and stop flows of materials.
  • Maintain accurate driving records.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete vehicle inspection reports, and report unsafe conditions and accidents.
  • Work schedule includes evenings and weekends when required.
  • Travel to out-of-town job sites and overnight stays when required.
  • Work in various weather conditions including inclement weather.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Valid AZ/DZ class driver's license is required (preference will be given to AZ Drivers).
  • Clean drivers abstract and CVOR required.
  • Minimum one-year Ready Mix or vehicle road experience operating multi-speed transmission of a Commercial vehicle is required.
  • Prior experience operating vehicles that utilize on board conveyor belt systems is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience operating Concrete Pump systems is considered an asset.
  • Prior Concrete knowledge and experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable and respectful of the Highway Traffic Act and municipality by laws.
  • Ability to transport material with attention to detail and emphasis on safety.
  • Knowledge of concrete mixing techniques and pouring practices.
  • Familiar with open pit and mine operations as well as aggregates
  • Familiar with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to lift weight up to 20kgs/50lbs repetitively.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure work quality and compliance are being appropriately monitored through inspections and observations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Successfully passed comprehensive pre-employment third party testing requirements (drug and alcohol testing and a Criminal Background Check (CPIC) and any other requirements they impose on contractors).
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
