We are seeking experienced security professionals to join our Campus Security team in Courtenay, BC

What you will do
- Locking and unlocking buildings, gates, and waste bins as scheduled.
- Escorting staff and students around campus as requested.
- Conducting full campus rounds to ensure safety and address issues.
- Patrolling parking lots and enforcing parking signage. Placing notices on cars not following posted signage.
- Reporting vehicles for towing, if necessary.
- Checking buildings are alarmed and doors are locked after hours.
- Responding to security and fire alarms as per procedures.
- Reviewing security camera footage in response to incidents.
- Assisting with minor snow removal and salting during storms.
- Maintaining daily logs and incident reports.
- Recording and reporting incidents within 24 hours. Notify of serious incidents by end of shift.
- Assisting students and staff with lost and forgotten keys after hours.
- Attending meetings with Student Life & Housing as needed.
- Assisting with event setup (major campus events and small housing events).
- Intervening if visitor/guest access and verification procedures are not followed.
- Intervening in disputes or conflicts related to package and delivery services.
- Enforcing quiet hours and addressing disruptive behaviors in accordance with
housing policies.
- Assisting with building evacuations during emergencies.
- Coordinating with housing staff and local authorities as appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate
- A valid BC Security Guard License is required.
- Occupational First Aid Level 2 is required.
- Prior security experience is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with our teams and clients.
- Superior customer service skills to foster positive relationships.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, demonstrating resilience and sound judgment to de-escalate challenging circumstances effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and observation skills, essential for detecting and addressing security risks proactively.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, adapting to the dynamic needs of our operation.
- Ability and willingness to conduct foot patrols of campus premises to ensure security protocols demonstrate a strong commitment to campus safety and security, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential risks and vulnerabilities followed.
