We are seeking experienced security professionals to join our Campus Security team in Courtenay, BC

What you will do

• Locking and unlocking buildings, gates, and waste bins as scheduled.
• Escorting staff and students around campus as requested.
• Conducting full campus rounds to ensure safety and address issues.
• Patrolling parking lots and enforcing parking signage. Placing notices on cars not following posted signage.
• Reporting vehicles for towing, if necessary.
• Checking buildings are alarmed and doors are locked after hours.
• Responding to security and fire alarms as per procedures.
• Reviewing security camera footage in response to incidents.
• Assisting with minor snow removal and salting during storms.
• Maintaining daily logs and incident reports.
• Recording and reporting incidents within 24 hours. Notify of serious incidents by end of shift.
• Assisting students and staff with lost and forgotten keys after hours.
• Attending meetings with Student Life & Housing as needed.
• Assisting with event setup (major campus events and small housing events).
• Intervening if visitor/guest access and verification procedures are not followed.
• Intervening in disputes or conflicts related to package and delivery services.
• Enforcing quiet hours and addressing disruptive behaviors in accordance with

housing policies.

• Assisting with building evacuations during emergencies.
• Coordinating with housing staff and local authorities as appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate

• A valid BC Security Guard License is required.
• Occupational First Aid Level 2 is required.
• Prior security experience is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with our teams and clients.
• Superior customer service skills to foster positive relationships.
• Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, demonstrating resilience and sound judgment to de-escalate challenging circumstances effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and observation skills, essential for detecting and addressing security risks proactively.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, adapting to the dynamic needs of our operation.
• Ability and willingness to conduct foot patrols of campus premises to ensure security protocols demonstrate a strong commitment to campus safety and security, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential risks and vulnerabilities followed.
