If this sounds like you, we have an amazing opportunity for you Extendicare is currently seeking a seasoned Senior Human Resources Manager to support our Long-Term Care division. The Senior Human Resources Manager partners with HR Business Partners to operationalize and align HR and business strategies. This role is critical in flawless execution of our people initiatives to enable the business in providing an exceptional employee experience.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Accountabilities:
Provide leadership to a team of 5 HR Business Partners, fostering a high‑performance culture, building capability, and ensuring seamless delivery of strategic and operational HR support across the organization.
Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leaders within the Long‑Term Care business, shaping people strategies that directly enable growth, operational effectiveness, and long‑term business success.
Lead analysis of key people trends, proactively identifying risks and opportunities, and developing innovative solutions that strengthen organizational performance and competitiveness.
Own the design and execution of strategic HR initiatives, ensuring alignment with business priorities and partnering with HR Business Partners to drive successful implementation at the site and home level.
Enable data‑informed decision‑making and continuous improvement across the employee lifecycle.
Oversee flawless execution of core HR programs and processes, including employee engagement, workforce planning, succession planning, talent development, complex ER/LR matters, recruitment and retention strategies, policy development, and HR process optimization.
Lead high‑risk or sensitive workplace investigations, including whistleblower cases or escalated employee concerns, ensuring fairness, compliance, and organizational integrity.
Coach and influence senior leaders, building capability in people leadership, organizational effectiveness, and change management, including stakeholder engagement and communication strategies.
Provide expert guidance on complex and sensitive people issues, coordinating with senior leaders and/or labour relations to drive effective solutions that mitigate risk and support business outcomes.
Identify and champion cross‑functional improvement opportunities, leveraging relationships across CoEs and HR Operations to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and employee experience.
Requirements:
University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources or a related field.
CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset; commitment to ongoing professional development expected.
7–10+ years of progressive human resources experience, with significant leadership responsibility
Proven experience operating in a unionized environment, with the ability to navigate complex labour relations issues.
Demonstrated success in strategic HR leadership, including change management, organizational design, and enterprise‑wide project management.
Exceptional executive‑level communication, relationship building, influence, and conflict management skills.
Strong analytical capabilities, with experience leveraging HRIS tools (Workday experience preferred) to drive insights and decision‑making.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, multi‑stakeholder environment while balancing strategic priorities with operational needs.
