JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist plans and conducts assessment and treatment services for assigned residents in accordance with diagnosis and the overall plan of care, and the stated objectives of the service. The Occupational Therapist works in conjunction with the Physiotherapy Service, Nursing Services, Recreation programs and other caregivers.

The position will promote the Mission of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate by supporting the care values regarding the provision of quality care, loving environment, Christian ideals and principles, respect for life and dignity of person, and preservation of our traditional ethnic customs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

  2. Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM)

  3. Previous experience in working with the elderly and with seating/positioning preferred.

  4. Knowledge of Ukrainian preferred.

  5. Possess good communication skills, both written and oral.

  6. Good mental and physical health, and good attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Director of Care

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform specific assessments upon referral.

  2. Conduct a program of care which will:

a) Improve, reinforce and/or enhance performance, where possible.

b) Facilitate learning of skills and functions essential for adapting to current functional level.

c) Assist in promoting and maintaining health of residents and support to the health care team.

d) Provide most comfortable and therapeutic positioning possible.

  1. Participate in admission conferences and annual care conferences when required.

  2. Develop a treatment plan, which is consistent with the goals and plans of other disciplines.

  3. Provide specific treatment/services as required and instructs the resident, family and staff in their use.

  4. Advise on special aides and adaptive equipment and instructs the resident, family and staff in their use.

  5. Complete a written assessment and treatment plan for residents. Document in the resident's chart with a copy kept on file in Rehabilitation Department.

  6. Submit written progress notes of residents requiring treatment (as per charting policy).

  7. Attend staff meetings and in-services as necessary.

  8. Refer resident to outside services as required (i.e. Speech Therapy).

  9. Direct and supervise the rehabilitation aids/assistants as related to his/her specific duties.

  10. Participate in the education program of the facility by presenting in-service instruction to staff in areas pertaining to the care of residents.

  11. Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals, policies and procedures.

  12. Maintain statistical records of services provided and report these to the Director.

  13. Assist with CQI and Occupational Health and Safety activities.

  14. Participate in the facility's team meetings as necessary.

  15. Enhances client safety in an effort to minimize safety risks.

  16. Adherence to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices.

  17. Perform other related duties as may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $29.75-$49.74 per hour
