Toronto, Ontario, Canada Densify Full time

About Densify

Densify is building the future of
autonomous, AI-driven cloud and container resource optimization
. Our platform enables intelligent workload management across Kubernetes, IaaS, and GPU environments — eliminating waste, improving performance, and reducing risk through policy-driven automation. We work with the world's most advanced IT organizations to solve complex infrastructure challenges using AI, analytics, and automation.

Role Overview

We're seeking a highly technical Staff Software Engineer to take a leadership role in the design and evolution of Kubex by Densify, with a primary focus on our Kubernetes-native offering. In this role, you will be a core contributor to the next generation of Kubex components so it can be securely deployed, seamlessly operated, and easily supported directly inside customers' Kubernetes clusters. Your work will focus on delivering enterprise ready deployments that prioritize security, resilience, observability, and operational simplicity across diverse environments. This includes hands on coding to build core platform capabilities, implement new features, improve reliability, and enforce security best practices across the application stack.

You will apply deep expertise in Kubernetes internals, including controllers, reconcilers, CRDs, admission webhooks, and API machinery, along with strong fluency in Go to build systems that behave predictably under real-world conditions. The work requires comfort with phased delivery, rapid iteration, and strong engineering fundamentals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end architecture and technical design of components that form Kubex's in-cluster components, ensuring they are secure, resilient, observable, and straightforward to operate in real-world customer environments.
  • Design and implement advanced Kubernetes controllers, reconcilers, CRDs, and admission webhooks using Go and controller-runtime, with a focus on correctness, idempotency, performance, and reliability.
  • Define and evolve deployment models and operational patterns for running Kubex securely and efficiently inside customer Kubernetes clusters, including RBAC design, API interactions, leader election, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure strong system-level characteristics by integrating metrics, structured logging, tracing, health and readiness checks, and other observability features into all in-cluster services.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards for Kubernetes-native development, ensuring high code quality and adherence to best practices for building event driven, eventually consistent systems.
  • Prototype and evaluate new technical approaches, exploring edge cases and validating assumptions through working code to ensure production-grade behavior under diverse cluster conditions.
  • Review designs and code for Kubernetes-focused components, providing mentorship and guidance on controller patterns, distributed-systems behaviors, and Go engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software development experience, with 3+ years in Kubernetes-related engineering roles.
  • Proven experience developing Kubernetes controllers/operators using controller-runtime (or equivalent frameworks).
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes resource management (requests/limits, QoS classes, eviction behavior) and pod lifecycle.
  • Experience building scalable, resilient, and production-grade systems running on Kubernetes.
  • Deep familiarity with distributed/cloud-native concepts: reconcile loops, idempotent design, eventual consistency, and CRD design.
  • Solid grasp of interfacing with the Kubernetes API server, RBAC, ownership/garbage collection semantics, and safe mutation patterns.
  • Competent Go developer with strong fundamentals in concurrency, error handling, structured logging, and testability.
  • Understands the full development lifecycle: design, implementation, automated testing & integration checks, deployment and release processes.
