Purpose

Reporting to the Mine Manager – Pamour, the Chief Engineer leads a multi-disciplinary team of engineering and geological staff. The position is accountable for the delivery of realistic and reliable mining plans by managing all production geology and mine engineering activities at the mine site, for safe work methods and procedures for all members of the department, for the pursuit of continuous improvement opportunities of mine operations and for the management of site specific technical services workforce and budget

Responsibilities

This position will oversee the short and long term planning responsibilities for surface mining activities including but not limited to:
  • Promotes the IRS through visible interaction, coaching and mentoring of workers in order to address concerns and health and safety improvements
  • Supports and maintain value based Safety Management System that identifies hazards/risks, monitors compliance and ensures corrective actions are completed
  • Promotes and adheres to Discovery Porcupine Environmental and Sustainability policies
  • Design, implementation and review of applicable systems, standards and procedures to manage all Mine Engineering and Production Geology functions
  • Reporting of performance statistics, statutory requirements and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coordinates the short, medium and long term planning functions for the Open Pit mining activities delivering associated schedules and designs
  • Integrates geotechnical guidance into mine forecasts
  • Reviews and approves monthly and annual reconciliations
  • Builds and maintains collaborative internal relationships (e.g. peer, boss, direct report) that assure speed and teamwork
Training and Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or equivalent discipline related experience for the position
  • 10-15 years' experience in Mine Engineering, Mine Operations and/or Mine Geology, preferably in an open pit mining environment
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory role with exposure to senior supervisory roles and duties
  • Able to read engineering plans with a good understanding of ground control, mine planning and geology
  • High learning agility
  • Good financial knowledge with experience in budgeting and cost control
  • Able to collaborate well with other departments and teams
