Position Overview

Axko Construction is seeking an experienced and dedicated General Foreman to lead and oversee on-site construction operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating crews, managing equipment, and ensuring all work meets project specifications, safety standards, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily site operations for assigned construction projects.
  • Direct and oversee the use of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, cranes, triaxles).
  • Operate smaller machinery when required (e.g., backhoe, skid-steer, telehandler).
  • Read, interpret, and execute from technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Set forms, perform framing, and manage small to medium building construction.
  • Monitor crew performance and productivity, providing leadership and support.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials, tools, and equipment to maintain workflow.
  • Oversee quality control to ensure compliance with project and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including daily logs, reports, and safety forms.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in Civil, Commercial, or ICI construction.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience as a Working Foreman, Lead Hand, or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Strong knowledge of building techniques, excavation, and trench safety.
  • Ability to operate small machinery and hold a valid G driver's license.
  • Proven commitment to safety and enforcement of company safety policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in project documentation and reporting.
  • Willingness to work paid overtime and occasional weekends.
  • Current certifications (WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid) are assets.

Working Conditions

  • Work at heights up to 40 feet on occasion.
  • Exposure to varying weather and site conditions; physical labor required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
  • Travel to job sites within Ottawa and surrounding areas; some overnight stays may be required.
