Job Overview

The Wood Prep & Finisher is responsible for preparing, staining, and finishing wood components to meet our quality standards. This role is hands-on and detail-oriented, supporting the production of custom wood products by ensuring surfaces are properly prepared and finishes are applied consistently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare wood surfaces through sanding, filling, prior to finishing
  • Apply stains, sealers, and protective coatings according to specifications
  • Match stains and finishes consistently across multiple pieces and orders
  • Inspect wood for defects, inconsistencies, or damage before and after finishing
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and finishing equipment
  • Follow production schedules and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Handle wood materials carefully to prevent damage during prep and finishing
  • Assist with masking, labeling, and staging finished components for next production steps
  • Follow all safety procedures related to finishing products, equipment, and ventilation
  • Communicate any material issues or quality concerns to supervisors

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with wood sanding, staining, or finishing (shop or production environment preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in color and finish application
  • Ability to work with hand tools, sanders, and finishing equipment
  • Basic understanding of wood species and how they react to stains and finishes
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • Physically able to lift and move wood components as required
  • Comfortable working in a production environment with deadlines

Preferred Experience

  • Previous woodworking experience
  • Familiarity with water-based stains and finishes
  • Experience with sanding and prepping wood

Work Environment

  • Indoor production facility
  • Exposure to wood dust, stains, and finishing products (PPE provided)
  • Standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks required

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $19.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 44 per week
