The Opportunity

The Transit and Parking Strategy Department strives to provide customer focused, efficient, reliable and affordable public transportation and parking services that link people, workplaces and the community and promotes economic development within the City of Barrie.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Transit Admnistrative Coordinator, the Transit and Parking Summer Student supports the delivery of various departmental services and programs. Specifically, this position assists with transit and parking related inspections, data collection, planning, and database management activities to support the efficient operation of the City's transit service while ensuring compliance with established standards.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Currently enrolled in or is a student in Secondary School, College, or University*

  • Minimum of 16 years of age or turning 16 by the end of the calendar year and must have attended one of the academic establishments listed above the year in which they are applying for employment and/or returning the following year

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned major responsibilities
  • Experience with design and mapping software, such as Illustrator or similar would be considered an asset

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • General knowledge of planning principles and database management
  • Demonstrated ability to:

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*

  • Please note that this is a requirement of the position for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Policy. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.

Work Term: May - August (4 Months)

  • Please note that the City has a Hybrid Work Program Policyin place that may allow for a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet eligibility requirements.

Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week

Wage:$19.32 to $26.31 per hour
