The Opportunity
We're currently seeking a First Aid Instructor to join our team at our Kelowna branch to teach Basic & Intermediate courses. (EFA, ECC, CPC, BLS, Babysitting). In this role you will have the opportunity to teach community members about the importance of first aid. You are a detail-oriented and organized individual who will be responsible for instructing courses as required and evaluating course exams. You will ensure that all duties and responsibilities are completed accurately and delivered with high quality, in a timely and professional manner. This includes ensuring a quality image conveyed by St. John Ambulance BC & Yukon, always, and consistently and effectively communicating the St. John Ambulance vision.
Responsibilities
· Represent St. John Ambulance in a positive and professional manner.
· Instruct General/OFA courses as scheduled;
· Instruct other WorkSafeBC and St. John Ambulance Courses, as required;
· Evaluate St. John Ambulance course exams or be trained as an examiner;
· Promote the sale of St. John Ambulance training courses and products;
· Maintain and clean first aid classrooms, equipment, and supplies;
· Conduct mall displays/tradeshows, as required; and
Mandatory Qualifications
· Minimum 18 years-old
· Ability to instruct classes 1 or 2 weekends each month based on program and scheduling needs
· Possess a reliable personal vehicle and ability to transport training materials and equipment for off-site instructional sessions, external or community-based classes
· Willingness to travel across multiple locations including our Kelowna, Vernona and Penticton branches and support occasional off-site training within the broader Okanagan region.
· Have experience as a first aid attendant (work or volunteer) for a minimum of 1 year
· Have held an Intermediate or higher-level First Aid or equivalent certificate for 2 or more years
Example of higher-level first aid certificate: Advanced First Aid, Occupational First Aid Level 3
Example of equivalent first aid certificate: Occupational First Aid Level 2
Skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to create a comfortable environment where people can learn and feel relaxed enough to ask questions;
· Confident in speaking to groups of people and demonstrating first aid skills and protocols;
· Passionate about first aid and passing on the knowledge to others;
· Able to maintain professionalism and provide constructive feedback to students;
· Comfortable with using a computer (for example, PowerPoint) for course delivery and other related administrative tasks;
· Previous teaching experience is an asset.
