Established in April 1981 by its parent company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) is an international upstream company, engaged in exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas outside the State of Kuwait. The corporate structure is divided into a head office in Kuwait and seven area offices in Australia, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, The Netherlands.

KUFPEC Canada Inc. (KCI) is the Canadian subsidiary of KUFPEC. KCI
 has a 30% working interest of the Kaybob Duvernay shale play which covers more than 300,000 acres of land in Alberta, Canada. The Kaybob project is the first onshore unconventional liquid rich tight gas asset that KUFPEC holds. Canadian Natural Resources Limited is the operator of 98% of the acreage and the other 2% is operated by Whitecap Resources Inc.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Drilling & Completions Engineer (Direct Hire Contract) will provide technical leadership, assurance, and optimization support for drilling, completions, workover, and well abandonment activities. The role ensures safe, cost-effective, and high-performing well delivery through robust technical review, benchmarking, operational tracking, and continuous improvement, while representing KUFPEC's interests in joint venture and industry forums.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1.     Operational Execution & Performance Tracking

·       Provide technical support during drilling, completions, and workover execution, ensuring operations are safe, efficient, and regulatory compliant.

·       Establish and maintain performance tracking frameworks using operator daily reports, delivering weekly and monthly operational updates.

·       Ensure drilling, completions, and workover data and documentation received from Operators are complete, accurate, auditable, and properly documented.

2.     Program Design, AFE & Assurance

·       Prepare and review drilling, completions, workover, and abandonment programs and AFEs, including validation of operator-provided designs and cost estimates.

·       Benchmark well designs and costs against offset and competitor wells and deliver internal assurance reports with actionable optimization recommendations.

·       Identify long-lead item requirements and coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability.

3.     Post-Well Analysis & Continuous Improvement

·       Prepare comprehensive End of Well Reports highlighting cost, efficiency, NPT, and benchmarking versus basin competitors.

·       Conduct post-project reviews and analyze post-frac treatment data to identify drilling and completion optimization opportunities.

·       Research emerging technologies and competitor practices to drive continuous improvement and enhanced well performance.

4.     HSE, Risk & Governance

·       Uphold the highest Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) standards across all drilling and completions activities.

·       Prepare and review Management of Change documentation and risk assessments as required.

·       Participate in Corporate Peer Reviews to ensure technical quality, consistency, and governance.

5.     Strategic Planning & Business Support

·       Support preparation of annual budgets and five-year plans, including technical inputs for management and Board approval.

·       Prepare technical presentations, reports, and materials to support asset planning and strategic decision-making.

·       Provide technical input to business development and asset optimization initiatives.

6.     Technical Leadership & Industry Engagement

·       Provide coaching, mentorship, and lead technical knowledge-sharing to build drilling and completions capability.

·       Capture and circulate key learnings from Duvernay operations for cross-asset knowledge transfer.

·       Represent KUFPEC at JV technical committees, workshops, and industry conferences, including preparation of technical papers and briefings.

Education and Experience:

Required Academic background:

·       Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline;

·       Professional Engineer designation with APEGA;

Required Related Work Experience:

·    Minimum 10-15 years of drilling and completions engineering experience with operating E&P company;

·  Recent drilling and completions engineering experience in the Western Canada Duvernay resource and/or North American unconventional shale gas assets is a key requirement;

·  Significant experience in completions design and multi-stage hydraulic fracture stimulation for unconventional assets is a key requirement;

·       Demonstrable experience in AER regulations, directives and industry practices related to drilling and completions is a key requirement;

·       Proficiency in drilling and completions software suites and reporting system;

·       Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline;

·       Professional Engineer designation with APEGA;

·       Strong analytical, communication and listening skills;

·       High degree of professionalism, with a confident, assertive style;

·       Team oriented, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic working relationship;

·       Ability to deal effectively with all types of people, build and maintain supportive relationships with key business contacts.
