The VP at Northwood Family Office will act as the trusted advisor and team leader for a select group of ultra-high-net-worth clients. This individual will work directly with clients to manage the relationship and provide expert guidance across a wide range of complex financial and personal matters, including:

  • Financial Planning

Beyond client advisory responsibilities, the VP will play a key leadership role within the firm - mentoring junior staff, deepening the team's technical expertise, and contributing to firm-wide knowledge through research, training, and collaboration across advisory teams. The VP will also support Northwood's business development efforts by identifying opportunities to grow client relationships, assisting during the prospecting phase, and representing the firm externally through professional networks and industry engagement.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Management

  • Lead and "own" client relationships and act as "first call" for clients.
  • Set overall strategy for clients. Proactively identify opportunities and needs of clients.
  • Lead principals and associates in managing client tasks, assume responsibility for all tasks to be completed by the team managing the client.
  • Ensure client work is delivered within deadlines as established by the firm and by clients.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency for clients.
  • As client owner you are responsible for all elements of compliance related to a client.
  • Deliver excellence and a best-in-class service.

Business Development

  • Actively contribute to Northwood's growth by identifying and cultivating new client relationships.
  • Collaborate with the business development team during the prospecting phase, including attending meetings and shaping proposals.
  • Represent Northwood externally by sharing our story and values with your professional network.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients through strategic insight and relationship-building.
  • Collaborate with marketing and leadership to refine messaging and outreach strategies.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and competitor activity to help position Northwood effectively in the market.

People Development

  • Demonstrate our Northwood Core Values consistently and ensure the team around you continues to live the core values.
  • Manage principals and associates to help them learn the "Northwood way".
  • Champion the organization internally by leveraging opportunities to bring teams together and creating a strong corporate culture.

  • Lead initiatives for Northwood to become more efficient in the process of managing clients.

  • Identify areas of industry growth/change and act as an expert in certain areas of knowledge.

Personal Development

  • Complete the learning objectives aligned to your role (see Northwood U details within individual objectives documentation for plans targeted for current fiscal year.

RELEVANT BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

Technical and Professional Expertise

  • CFA, CPA or CA designation
  • Minimum 10 years of post-accreditation experience, with a strong interest in the wealth management industry.
  • Deep expertise in either investment management or tax planning (personal, trust, and corporate).
  • Strong technical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive, solutions-driven approach.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth clients and managing a wide range of special projects.

Client Advisory and Relationship Management

  • Proven ability to lead complex planning engagements and collaborate effectively with external professionals.
  • Exceptional client relationship management skills, with high emotional intelligence (EQ) and the ability to build trust.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial concepts.

Leadership and Team Contribution

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and lead teams across projects and initiatives
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative, capable of working independently and contributing to team success.
  • Ability to integrate quickly and add value in a dynamic environment.
  • Hands-on approach, willing to contribute meaningfully at all levels of the organization.
