The Regional Dementia Care Program provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >65 years old) and/or adults with an age-related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.QUALIFICATIONSCertification/Experience/Knowledge:Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent requiredPersonal Support Worker Certificate, HealthCare Aide Certificate or completion of minimum second (2nd) semester in a recognized nursing program requiredUnderstanding of best practices in Responsive Behaviours in Dementia requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an assetEducational assets: UFIRST, Montessori Methods for Dementia, ASSIST, Mental Health First AidSkills/Abilities:Ability to support daily routines through direct support, prompting and encouragement requiredUnderstanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactionsExcellent level of interpersonal skills requiredExcellent level of written and verbal communication skills requiredAbility to work as a collaborative member of the health team requiredAbility to work with minimal supervision requiredAbility to meet the physical demands required to provide care to acute/rehab patients requiredMust be a motivated, flexible and organized individual with patience, tact and an understanding of the special needs of the elderlyDemonstrated commitment to continuing education requiredBasic computer skills requiredMust demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitorsMust support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organizationGood attendance and work record requiredBilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.
