Area Of Responsibility
Reporting to the Supervisor, Development Approvals, the Technician, Development Engineering will co-ordinate and prepare comments and conditions of approval on various development applications. Review, provide comments and approve grading and drainage plans prior to the issuance of building permit. Ensure compliance with municipal and provincial standards for the protection of public interests and the environment.

  • Review and provide comments and conditions of approval on residential, condominium, industrial, commercial and institutional development applications ensuring compliance with municipal and provincial standards and engineering practices.
  • Provide approval for same on behalf of the division by stamping drawings as approved for grading and servicing.
  • Assist applicants in satisfying engineering requirements and clearance of conditions.
  • Review, provide comments and approve storm water management reports, and or related studies for private and public pond designs.
  • Review and approve grading and drainage plans for infill houses and custom homes to ensure servicing and drainage requirements are satisfied.
  • Determine letter of credit amounts and provide special conditions for legal agreements.
  • Perform site inspections and meet with homeowners, engineers, contractors and applicants to ensure site has been constructed in accordance with the approved plans; identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Meet with internal and external representatives to discuss and resolve grading and drainage complaints, engineering issues, and ensure that development applications are processed in a timely manner.
  • Request the issuance of citations, initiate request for prosecution for constructed works or conditions that are in non-compliance of the legal agreement or approved plans and represent The City of Brampton during prosecution.
  • Provide conditions of registration on proposed condominium applications.
  • Provide comments and clearance on Committee of Adjustment, Severance, Condominium and Part Lot Control applications.
  • Manage access to report libraries and engineering files and respond to requests from internal departments, external agencies, consultants and the public in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
  • Maintain development index maps and coordinate with the GIS team to produce updated or new maps.
  • Represent the Development Engineering section on various committees throughout the corporation.
  • Investigate complaints and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Assist in the training of new or inexperienced staff as required.
  • Perform additional or related duties as assigned.

Education
SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • High School (Grade 12) plus an additional program of over two (2) and up to three (3) years in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.

Experience

  • Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of related experience in a municipal engineering environment.

Required Licence Certification

  • Member or Associate Member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
  • Achievement of or working towards obtaining the Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
  • Valid, non-probationary Class G Driver's Licence.

Other Skills And Assets

  • Excellent verbal, written and public relations skills required with a commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong level of ability with Microsoft Office Suite.
