Position Description

SickKids is leading a transformative enterprise-wide program to deliver leading edge, data driven, individualized medicine through AI. Known as SickKids AI Service, or SKAI Service, our team delivers end-to-end machine learning solutions to high impact clinical and operational challenges. With a keen focus on sustainable and responsible deployment, you will partner with SickKids' renowned experts to deliver world-leading solutions across all areas clinical care and hospital operations enabling us to realize SickKids's mission of becoming a leader in precision child health through applied artificial intelligence.

Here's What You'll Get to Do

  • Work with some of the best clinicians, data scientists, and software engineers in the world
  • Facilitate the development of a program centered on machine learning with an initial focus on data from electronic health records
  • Train, develop, and validate machine learning algorithms on hospital data
  • Build end-to-end data pipelines for machine learning models with strong quality control checks and bias assessment
  • Rapidly prototype models for exploratory analysis and assess project viability
  • Generate and test working hypotheses
  • Provide technical support for program management and business development activities including proposal writing and solution development
  • Own and manage knowledge sharing within a community
  • Develop and support training and development opportunities for SickKids staff who want more opportunities to use machine learning

Here's What You'll Need

  • Candidate should have a background in computer science (machine learning) with a strong understanding of statistics and scientific research with one or both of the below:
  • BSc in Computer Science or relevant fields with focus on machine learning, plus a minimum of 3-5 years of experience
  • Masters in data science or equivalent with focus on machine learning, plus a minimum of 1-2 years of experience
  • Experience developing and implementing algorithms for the processing of large datasets
  • Excellent project and time management skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across a large institution
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent writing skills to help with development of grants and papers
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting
  • Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated creativity and latitude in problem solving, including the ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives

This will make you extra competitive

  • Hands on experience cleaning data and training models for clinical or biomedical data sets, especially Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Imaging data
  • Experience deploying ML models into real-world systems
  • MLflow experience for training, validation and deployment and experience tracking.
  • Knowledge of medicine or biology
  • History of publishing papers and contributing to scientific research
