Role Description

We are looking for a motivated and technically inclined Junior Drive Systems specialist to join our Drive Systems team. This position is suited for individuals with a foundational understanding of electrical systems who are eager to build hands-on experience in commissioning, maintaining, and supporting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Soft Starters (SS) systems across Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) applications.

This role blends field support with application and project assistance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a fast learner, and comfortable collaborating across departments and engaging with customers. Familiarity with PLC systems and programming is considered a strong asset, along with experience or exposure to tools such as EPlan, CAD, or 3D design software for documentation and layout work.

Responsibilities

The Drive Systems Specialist will perform a variation of the following duties, depending on operational demands, customer needs, and project requirements:

·    Assisting with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system upgrades for Variable

Frequency Drive (VFD) and Soft Starter (SS) systems, including Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage

(MV) applications, at customer sites.

·    Participating in field investigations and documenting findings for internal teams and customers.

·    Helping evaluate customer applications to select suitable VFD and SS solutions under guidance.

·   Assist in preparing and updating technical documentation, including service notes, technical reports, proposals, drawings, and panel layouts.

·     Work alongside cross-functional teams (Automation, EIC, Sales) to ensure smooth project execution.

·     Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery.

·    Supporting shop activities such as drive panel wiring inspection, FAT preparation and execution, and equipment labelling.

·     Tracking and recording work activities accurately (timesheets, service notes, etc.).

·     Remaining flexible and available to travel, including occasional after-hours or weekend work depending on project schedules.

Requirements

·      Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, Industrial Automation or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.

·      0–3 years of relevant experience (internships, co-ops, or academic projects in drives or motor controls are considered).

·      Exposure to motor control systems, VFDs, or Soft Starters is preferred.

·      Familiarity with electrical schematics, motor control theory, and commissioning practices.

·      Good communication, teamwork, and technical writing skills.

·      Willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow into more advanced responsibilities.

·      Valid driver's license and ability and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

·      Knowledge of PLCs or PLC programming is a strong asset

·      Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD), 3D designs software, and/or EPLAN is considered an asset.
