TD Testing and Quality Engineer (QE)
covers a specialized area dedicated to high-quality application and solution delivery. Similar to industry trends, TD's definition of this area of discipline (as well as skill and knowledge requirements) has changed over time. One thing hasn't changed – experts in this area remain highly-marketable across businesses.
Some of our testing activities may focus on system integration, business acceptance, performance, operability and deployment verification. Quality Assurance activities, in contrast, give stakeholders information about product or service quality while allowing the business to appreciate and understand any implementation risks. Many Testing & QA Experts could be involved in end-to-end delivery of testing, or more focused on a specific discipline.

Customer
- Accountable for Test Strategy deliverables, planning, test design /development, test case automation and test execution to achieve business outcomes for medium to high complexity scope.
- Integrate directly into a team's continuous delivery process, augmenting the delivery of quality software and ensuring speed, agility, and risk management.
- Provide leadership, direction and feedback throughout the development and design processes; provides test development / automation support to ensure that the quality of the intended solution is met
- Able to determine testing impacts for multiple delivery teams and scale accordingly to ensuring positive business outcomes
- Responsible for activities related to risk identification and mitigation and validating that business outcomes are achieved.
- Drive quality and metrics making improvements in delivery; work on becoming a leader in innovation
- Utilize advanced domain knowledge & ability to understand technical solutions to build an optimized Test Approach, inclusive of the tooling strategy
- Effectively engineer and leverage virtual assets to support virtualization of any incomplete / unavailable code, service, database, etc.
- Have strong knowledge of test data management to reuse automated test data provisioning capabilities to be able to adopt a standard test data tool set
- Lead deployment and implementation of tools / processes / resources and automation for functional and/or non-functional testing (performance, readiness / reliability testing (ORT), accessibility, security) approach, frameworks, and ensure automated tests are integrated into the continuous integration, delivery, and testing (CI/CD/CT) pipelines
- Identify opportunities for test asset reusability and efficiencies in test approach
- Proactively seek continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and responsible for developing, documenting, and proactively identifying end-to-end test solution designs and early automation opportunities within the testing process
- Lead team and collaborate cross-functionally with development, business analysts, etc. to ensure proper assessment of user stories including acceptance criteria and Definition of Done (DoD) / Ready (DoR)
- Apply Coach and mentor others on the principles of behavior / Test Driven Development (BDD / TDD) and focus on value driven outcomes
SDET (in addition to above)
- Provide advanced test development support
- Accountable for test architecture activities
- Sitting at the Product Group (PG) level, act as a quality expert working across numerous development teams in medium complexity deliveries
- Act as an expert who can quickly troubleshoot and accountable for use of automation frameworks across numerous delivery teams as needed
- Ensure quality of source code; looking for opportunities to effectively leverage tools and engineering practices (DevOps tools and processes, SV, monitoring tools and process, etc.)
- Accountable for early contributions to the design and development process \ to ensure built-in-quality code
Shareholder
- Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to quality engineering activities
- Ensure respective programs/ policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities
- Collaboratively engage with relevant stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external, to shift from finding defects to proactively preventing defects
- Actively seek and support continuous improvement and automation opportunities within the quality engineering practice
- Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using data to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices
- Identify opportunities to minimize cost, provide recommendations and/or deliver corresponding strategic solutions to support cost effectiveness and to enhance stakeholder experience
- Conduct test assets reviews to ensure adherence to quality, standards compliance, reusability, and ease of maintenance
- Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist
- Lead / facilitate and/or implement actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues
- Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
- Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate nonstandard, high-risk activities as necessary
- Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
- Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

- Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships

Breadth & Depth
- Experienced professional role with in-depth knowledge / expertise in testing planning, design, automation, and execution.
- Primary subject matter expert in own area, able to consult with stakeholders or cross functional teams with respect to all aspects of quality software delivery
- Hands on expertise understanding architecture blueprints and diagrams including logical data models and translate them into efficient test approaches
- Expert knowledge of specific domain and quality engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes, and procedures
- Business and technology acumen across multiple areas, seeks out and identifies opportunities to benefit the Bank and / or introduce operational improvements
- Advanced debugging and problem-solving skills; investigates and analyzes potential solutions to complex problems
- Lead Test Automation activities between and within pods
- Analyze, develop, debug, execute and maintain complex automated test cases
- Be responsible for all project/ release testing (e.g. integration, business acceptance, performance, operability, deployment verification)
- Apply risk analysis methodologies, tools that align with a project's development approach
- Prioritize testing tasks, ensure milestones, activities, tasks are completed as scheduled
- Create and execute test case creation and execution to ensure team meets timelines
- Ensure testing does not impact the production environment (e.g., file transmission scheduling), meets information security/privacy policies/guidelines
- Follow established testing processes, in doing so, identify, assess, address, resolve and/or escalate, develop contingency plans as needed
- Participate in audit reviews of test artifacts, ensure they meet standards and audit requirements, and are stored in the project site
- Participate in gate reviews, testing activities and artifacts, ensure they adhere to gating criteria
- Capable of leading QE activities within sprint and SIT phase – work closely with all team to plan, execute, report, and drive continuous improvement
- Implement QE Best practices at every opportunity and ensure accurate status tracking/ reporting to QE manager
- Ability to work autonomously on complex application / solution issues as needed, escalating to leadership or other stakeholders when necessary; can play a leadership role to drive activities
- Ability to drive and support delivery of quality solutions across pods or medium to high complexity/size scope across one product line / business
- Deep experience applying in new / advanced techniques and approaches in testing and automation (e.g., BDD, Machine Learning, etc.) and ability to lead their implementation in the platform, project
- Future focused- foresee issues and gaps and identifies industry trends
- Effectively lead team, participate in and drive collaboration
- Report to a Practice lead

- Advanced experience in software configuration code and release management
- Advanced knowledge of test architecture frameworks, technology, tools, processes, and procedures
Experience And/or Education
- BS degree in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline; or equivalent practical experience
- Strong academic background (e.g., software engineering, computer science)
- 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Strong Python/Java programming knowledge and working experience – Ability to write code/modules for complex scenarios, integration points and supporting multiple technologies
- In sprint automation for Python/Java
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Good familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Solid understanding of SQL for data validation and integration
- Experienced in behavior driven development model (BDD)
- Knowledge and working experience with Azure Cloud architecture and services
- Knowledge and working experience on Automation frameworks
- Working experience with CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins
- Strong Test Leadership and Management Skills – Create program level strategies, test metrics and reporting, ability to drive sprint scope, retrospection and influence changes to align to best practices
- Actively participate in daily meetings with development and business stakeholders, code reviews, building automation framework, and performing automation demos
- Strong agile background – Sprint ceremonies, scrum methodology, planning and retrospections.
- Good to have: working experience with Ansible, working experience with Linux/UNIX, previous Banking experience or TD experience
