Calgary Vancouver Nanaimo Prince George etc or Remote AB, Canada EnviroCareers Full time
My client is a 100% employee-owned Canadian environmental consulting firm with an impressive legacy of three decades in operation. Known for their practical approach to ecological consulting—delivering actionable solutions, not just reports—they bring together a team of experienced biologists, scientists, and planners to serve a diverse suite of sectors including renewable energy, mining, oil & gas, transportation, regional planning, and reclamation. The firm operates across Western and Northern Canada, with multiple strategically located offices serving regional and national clients. They emphasize science-driven, client-focused environmental solutions, built on collaboration and long-term relationships.

My client is looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist who can produce defensible groundwater models and interpretations, deliver high-certainty field data programs, and de-risk regulatory decisions for complex resource and infrastructure projects. Success is measured by regulator-ready deliverables, data integrity, client risk reduction, and internal capability growth.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Choice of 100% remote or hybrid within any western regional offices.

Travel: 20% in western Canada & Yukon

Salary: $85k - $145k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual performance bonuses AND annual profit-sharing bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

Role Scope:
  • Groundwater Characterization: Design and execute drilling and test programs that produce statistically and hydrogeologically valid data suitable for regulatory filings, conceptual site models, and layered 3D interpretation.
  • Monitoring-Well Network Designed and Installed: Oversee borehole logging, well installation, well development, and QA/QC protocols for new groundwater monitoring infrastructure.
  • Aquifer Testing Interpreted With Actionable Decisions: Lead slug, slug, packer, and aquifer tests and translate results into decisions affecting groundwater-surface interactions, baseline conditions, and design-input recommendations.
  • Aqueous Geochemistry and Water-Quality Trends Strategically Interpreted: Conduct temporal trend analyses, geochemical evolution interpretation, and surface water quality synthesis where relevant.
  • Senior-Level Technical Author or Reviewer of Regulator-Ready Reports: Produce or review hydrogeology assessments, aquifer characterization, baseline hydrogeology, and permitting inputs at a senior author standard.
  • Internal Capability Strength Raised: Transfer field methodology, analytical rigor, and hydrogeologic interpretation skills to emerging staff.
  • Proposals and Scopes That Win on Technical Credibility: Contribute to hydrogeologic scoping and proposals that clearly quantify effort, decision risk, data value, and timeline feasibility for mining, infrastructure, and resource projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead, design, and oversee groundwater drilling programs, logging, well installations, hydraulic tests (slug and packer), and well development—ensuring data defensibility.
  • Direct and interpret hydrogeologic analyses, groundwater-surface interactions, CSM development, and aquifer test results.
  • Manage, synthesize, and interpret groundwater and surface water geochemical/water-quality datasets, producing regulator-ready trend narratives.
  • Act as senior technical author or senior reviewer for hydrogeology and water quality assessments and permitting applications.
  • Build team capability through structured knowledge transfer and analytical guidance.
  • Shape investigation areas, test objectives, station placement (hydrometric and baseline), and QA/QC standards for all groundwater inputs feeding regulatory decision-making.
  • Contribute to proposals and scoping that correctly price hydrogeologic effort and timeline realism.
  • Participate proactively in health & safety compliance across field travel and execution.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years professional hydrogeology, with a majority of experience producing regulatory-facing groundwater reports.
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in geoscience or engineering with hydrogeology specialization (water science, resource engineering, or equivalent).
  • Eligible for or holding professional registration: geoscience/engineering/hydrogeology-relevant designation (QP-track suitable).
  • Familiarity with common groundwater and other relevant software would be an asset (e.g., GoldSim, MODFLOW, AquiferTest, AQUACHEM, Leapfrog, R/RStudio).
  • Proven record of monitoring-well installations, hydraulic/aquifer testing, groundwater-surface interaction assessment, and water-quality trend interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate safely in remote and northern climates, with air/ground travel between project areas and offices as needed.
  • Ability to organize and manage multi-priority scopes without timeline or quality slippage.
  • Capable of making timely groundwater decisions that de-risk permitting outcomes for clients.
  • Class 5 driver's license. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
