Role Overview
The Spotter plays a critical role in maintaining workplace safety by assisting equipment operators who have limited or obstructed views. The Spotter ensures that all vehicle and equipment movements are conducted safely by providing clear signals, maintaining visual contact with operators, and continuously monitoring for hazards in the surrounding area. This position requires constant focus, excellent communication, and a strong commitment to safety at all times.
Responsibilities
- Act as the eyes and ears for equipment operators by providing clear, effective, and agreed-upon signals.
- Help guide heavy machinery, including trucks, cranes, and aerial work platforms (MEWPs), when operators have obstructed views.
- Establish and enforce exclusion zones to prevent unauthorized access to a work area.
- Continuously monitor the surrounding area for potential hazards, such as pedestrians, overhead power lines, other equipment, and unstable ground.
- Stop all work immediately if a risk becomes uncontrolled or if visual contact with the operator is lost.
- Remain focused exclusively on the spotting task and avoid all distractions while guiding equipment.
- Wear high-visibility personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Company from time to time.
Requirements
- Ability to work effectively without supervision and remain physically and mentally alert.
- Must stay focused and free from distractions such as cell phones or headphones while performing duties.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to use hand signals and/or two-way radios effectively.
- Ability to maintain constant observation and react quickly to changing situations.
- Able to summon emergency assistance when required.
- Able to lower aerial work platforms (MEWPs) using manual override or emergency drop controls.
Work Conditions
- Work is primarily indoors.
- Workdays involve standing, kneeling, lifting, stretching, and twisting.
- Must wear appropriate PPE at all times and follow Vollmer's safety procedures.
Additional Notes
- Steady Days 7:00am to 3:30pm - Monday to Saturday.
- Able to work Sundays as needed.
- Reliable transportation.
- Steel toed safety boots.
- Must have strong verbal communication skills.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 2 months
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 – 48 per week
