Position Description
To direct and lead youth programming for youth (9 to 17 years). The Youth Leader shall seek to foster Christian community through building relationships with young people that strengthen their commitment to the church and growth in faith in Jesus Christ.
Works with: Minister, Co-ordinating Ministry Team, Church Volunteers, and Ministry & Personnel.
Qualifications
Personal faith and passion for youth ministry. Experience in program planning and delivery. Able to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong organization and interpersonal skills as well as a social media proficiency.
Valid Vulnerable Police Check required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Create opportunities to connect, and build relationships with, children, youth and families who are part of the Waterdown community.
Plan and implement age appropriate activities for youth that promote community through fellowship, fun and faith development. Such activities might include; musicals and dramatic presentations, small group Bible study, social activities and service projects.
Coordinate fund-raising activities that support special youth activities and trips.
Plan, organize and lead weekly youth group mid- week program.
Coordinate, oversee scheduling, mentor, support and encourage youth.
Meet with Minister and other staff as deemed necessary.
Support, in prayer and action, the full ministry of the church.
Regularly communicate with office staff and provide a timely and accurate schedule of youth activities. Keep the congregation informed of youth events through the church communication mediums (e.g. E-Blast electronic newsletter, posters, bulletin announcements, web page, etc.) Provide monthly reports to the Co-ordinating Ministry Team and a year-end report for the congregation.
Encourage youth to participate in all facets of the life of the faith community, including worship, choirs, educational opportunities, youth activities and service projects, etc.
Network with other youth leaders in both the wider church and community to engage a wide web of support and opportunities for individuals within the community.
