The Opportunity: Build Something Extraordinary

We're looking for a visionary Managing Lawyer to lead V-Law's growth from foundation to scale. This isn't traditional firm management—this is building the future of legal practice in British Columbia. Ideally, you're highly skilled in Family Law, Estate Litigation, Estates, or Corporate Law.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Law Society Compliance:
    Liaising with the Law Society and managing all audit requirements
  • Financial Oversight:
    Overseeing trust and operating accounts with the accountant/bookkeeper
  • Strategic Leadership:
    Setting the vision, direction, and priorities for V-Law's growth
  • Lawyer Recruitment:
    Bringing in and onboarding strong, value-aligned associates
  • Practice Development:
    Building your own book while driving firm-wide revenue
  • Operational Excellence:
    Designing, improving, and scaling processes and systems
  • Culture Building:
    Creating a collaborative, innovative environment that attracts top talent

Non-Negotiable Requirements:

Tech-Savvy Professional

  • Comfortable with legal practice management software, AI tools, and virtual collaboration platforms
  • Able to learn new systems quickly and help others adopt technology
  • Embraces technology as a practice enabler, not an obstacle
  • Confident navigating video conferencing, cloud-based systems, and digital workflows

Small/Mid-Sized Firm Experience

  • Background in firms with 2-20 lawyers where you wore multiple hats
  • Direct experience with process improvement and operational efficiency
  • Understands that operations, business development, AND legal work all matter
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building systems from scratch

Business Development Excellence

  • Currently hitting a growth ceiling and ready to scale beyond current capacity
  • Proven track record of client origination and relationship management
  • Natural networker who generates referrals and repeat business
  • Able to teach others your business development strategies

Ideal Candidate Profile

Professional Background:

  • 5-15 years of practice experience (though exceptional candidates outside this range will be considered)
  • Licensed in one of the three: BC, ON or AB
  • Experience in general practice or high-demand areas (family, real estate, wills & estates, corporate, etc.)
  • Track record of managing cases, clients, and contributing to firm growth
  • Existing book of business with $120K-$150K annual billings
  • At a growth inflection point
    where current capacity is capping potential

Our compensation structure includes:

  • Performance-based revenue share tied to firm growth
  • Retain 70% of your personal practice billings (standard V-Law rate)

  • Recruit and onboard 3-5 high-quality associate lawyers
  • Establish V-Law as a recognized brand in legal community
  • Achieve $500K-$750K in total firm revenue
  • Build sustainable client acquisition systems
  • Scale personal practice to $180K+ in billings
