The Regional Controller is responsible for driving financial performance in the Power Generation Region by acting as a trusted business advisor, ensuring the prudent management of financial resources, and the production of high-quality financial information.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting is accurately prepared and distributed to the regional leadership and the corporate head office on a timely basis
  • Review and prepare working papers, reports and other documentation for the annual audit and engage with external auditors as required
  • Engage with the operations teams and prepare the annual budget and quarterly forecasts for the region
  • Ensure that tax compliance obligations are met for monthly HST and annual, NR4 and T4A-NR returns.
  • Ensure compliance and enhancement of internal controls and financial processes
  • Effectively manage a team of 8; and coordinate shared services activities with the corporate accounts payable and payroll shared service group
  • Collaborate with the regional leadership team through the management system, the performance scorecard process, and the annual strategic planning process
  • Comply with Human Resources Manager's Toolkit annually for job descriptions, performance reviews, career development and annual employee/employer feedback
  • Foster a positive working environment which promotes morale, engagement, and the achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Provide leadership where expectations are clearly communicated, and employees know how they can contribute and are rewarded when results meet or exceed expectations
  • As part of the wider controllers' group support broader finance projects relating to effectiveness and efficiency of business processes

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A CPA designation is required.
  • A university degree in commerce, accounting or equivalent.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience, preferably within the construction sector.
  • Public accounting experience is an asset.
  • Experience in nuclear industry considered an asset.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • WIP management and cost control experience is an asset.
  • Management experience in a large matrix organization is an asset.
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities, meticulously organized and detail oriented.
  • Prior experience coaching, mentoring and leading a team.
  • A continuous improvement and learning mindset is essential.
  • Intermediate knowledge of tax.

COMPENSATION

The expected annual salary range for this role is between $116,875 and $152,250. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education, experience and overall competencies. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, and career development programs.
