Job Purpose

The Grant Writer/Policy Analyst will play a critical role in supporting Saulteau First Nations' strategic initiatives by identifying, securing, and managing funding opportunities. This role is responsible for researching, developing, and writing grant proposals, as well as analyzing and developing policies that align with the community's goals and priorities. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing, research, and analytical skills and have a strong understanding of Indigenous issues, funding processes, and policy development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Funding Development:

  • Research potential funding opportunities from various sources, including government, non-profit, and private sector grants.
  • Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals that align with Saulteau First Nations' needs and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership, program managers, and stakeholders to gather relevant information and develop funding strategies.
  • Track grant submissions and manage reporting requirements for awarded grants.
  • Collaborate with Financial Services to monitor grant budgets, ensure eligible expenditures, and support financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements, including deadlines, rules, conditions, and reporting obligations.
  • Maintain a database of grant opportunities and submissions to support ongoing funding strategies.

Policy Analysis and Development:

  • Conduct research and analysis on policies impacting Saulteau First Nations, focusing on areas such as health, education, economic development, environmental protection, and cultural preservation.
  • Integrate cultural knowledge, guidance from Elders, and community values into research, analysis, and policy drafting.
  • Draft, review, and update policies to ensure alignment with the needs and objectives of the community.
  • Engage with government representatives, partners, and stakeholders to advocate for policies that benefit Saulteau First Nations.
  • Prepare policy briefs, reports, and recommendations to assist leadership in decision-making processes.
  • Provide manager with regular updates on policy developments, funding trends, grant statuses, and emerging opportunities.

Research and Data Collection:

  • Support the development and maintenance of systems and tools for tracking grants, policies, and related documentation.
  • Gather and analyze data to support grant proposals, funding applications, and policy initiatives.
  • Monitor trends and changes in Indigenous funding, legislation, and policy that may impact Saulteau First Nations.
  • Develop presentations and other materials to effectively communicate research findings and funding opportunities.

Community Engagement:

  • Consult with community members, leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure grant and policy initiatives align with the community's needs and priorities.
  • Attend community meetings and events as required to represent the organization and gather input for grant and policy development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the governance and strategic goals of Saulteau First Nations.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Communications, or a related field. A master's degree is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing, policy analysis, or a related field. Experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and Indigenous records management standards and legislation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with grant management software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous funding sources, governmental policies, and legislation affecting Indigenous communities.
  • Understanding of Indigenous governance, customs, and community dynamics, especially within Saulteau First Nations.
  • Willingness to work with Elders and cultural committees to ensure records management practices align with cultural protocols.
  • Strong ethical standards and a commitment to upholding the values of the Saulteau First Nations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required for travel to different community offices or archives.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check
  • Light lifting, including files and office materials.
  • Availability to attend meetings and engagements within the community.

Work Conditions

  • Office work is performed primarily between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday; overtime as required and approved.
  • Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
  • Wage Range: $32.58-$37.46 / Hr
