As the need for mental health services grows, Child Development Institute (CDI) continues to be the steadfast support and leading provider of specialized mental health services for children and youth aged 0-18 and their families. Who we need
CDI seeking knowledgeable and competent Youth Mentor to join SNAP Boys Youth Clubs from March 2, 2026 to June 18, 2026.
The Youth Mentor is an integral part of the SNAP Boys Youth Clubs. The youth mentors work with various groups to provide youth with staff who they can relate to and learn positive role modelling. This group component, which corresponds with the school year schedule, utilizes the SNAP Framework to address various challenges youth experience at home, school, or in the community. The focus is on providing a positive, therapeutic environment to explore youth related issues, practice SNAP skills and social skills, develop prosocial future oriented plans, attain life skills, and have access to caring male adults with whom they can connect.
This is a non-bargaining, casual contract position that requires flexible evening availability. Working hours will range from 5 to 10 hours per week, based on operational needs.
- Accepts and works within the framework of the Institute's stated vision, mission, values and goals;
- Helps with preparing the meal and dessert;
- Models positive engagement in the space;
- Assists with clean up at the end of group;
- Takes attendance and performs other administrative tasks;
- Facilitates sports activities;
- Participates in and sometimes lead group discussions with the support of senior staff
- Must be trained on SNAP strategies and experience in behaviour management;
- Must be a SNAP graduate;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Must be reliable, organized, and self-motivated;
- Able to meet deadlines within a specified timeframe;
- Has the ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse background and experiences;
- Must be patient and compassionate;
- Assertiveness, responsible work ethic, and able to work proactively;
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Other Requirements

Mental Effort
- Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing.
- Mental flexibility required to lead a group program with a number of components (briefing, meet & greet, dinner, interactive, group, goodnight, documentation, debriefing) requiring ability to support and adapt to client and team needs
- Manage crisis situations, as needed following agency policies, child welfare and health and safety standards
Physical Effort
- Standing and moving for the majority of the shift
- Lifting or moving up to 20lbs may be required
Working Conditions
- Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions
- Noise level is moderate to high.
- Fast-paced work environment.
- Flexible hours, evening work required.
Compensation
$17.60 per hour.
