We're seeking a Director, Legal & Contracts to lead the delivery of in-house legal services—providing not only expert counsel, but also hands-on execution across a wide range of legal and business matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver practical, hands-on legal support that advances business objectives while mitigating risk and ensuring compliance.
  • Provide strategic legal advice and actively participate in the execution of initiatives, contracts, and corporate programs.
  • Monitor, interpret, and advise on current and emerging legislation to support informed, forward-looking decisions.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements that align with operational and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel on specialized matters such as litigation or complex regulatory issues.
  • Serve as a proactive business partner across departments, advising on governance, employment law, privacy, cybersecurity, collective bargaining, and equity-related matters.
  • Lead or contribute to the development and implementation of corporate policies, procedures, and legal frameworks.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and active membership with the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in commercial law, ideally within a corporate commercial or in-house legal environment.
  • Strong ability to assess legal risk and deliver practical, solution-oriented advice.
  • Proven experience with complex negotiations.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all levels.
  • Business acumen and a deep understanding of how legal strategy supports organizational goals.
  • Experience with technology-related commercial transactions, is considered an asset.
