Role accountabilities:
The successful candidate will lead the design and integration of railway signaling systems for a range of projects, including commuter rail, light rail transit (LRT), and subway systems. This role involves providing technical leadership to ensure signaling solutions are robust, innovative, and tailored to project requirements.
You will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary design teams and coordinating closely with civil, systems, and operations teams. This collaborative approach ensures seamless integration of signaling systems with other project disciplines, supporting efficient project delivery and operational performance.
Key duties include developing signaling design strategies, specifications, and detailed drawings in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations. Your work will ensure the signaling system meets safety, reliability, and operational criteria.
The role requires regular interfacing with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to secure alignment, obtain necessary approvals, and address stakeholder concerns. Effective communication and relationship management are essential for successful project outcomes.
You will oversee design schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring all milestones are met within project constraints. This includes proactive management to address potential bottlenecks and optimize team productivity.
Conducting design reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance checks will be central to your responsibilities. These activities safeguard the integrity of the signaling design and minimize project risks.
The position also involves mentoring junior engineers and supporting technical excellence within the team. By fostering professional development and sharing expertise, you will contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 12 years of experience in railway signaling design, preferably within Canada.
- Proven experience leading signaling design on large-scale transit projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree is an asset.
- P.Eng. license in Ontario is preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain licensure.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian railway signaling standards and practices.
- Familiarity with CBTC, conventional signaling, and interlocking systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $178,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
