The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a modern treaty government located in the community of hitac̓u on the west coast of Vancouver Island, on the eastern shore of Ucluelet Inlet.
The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to- government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ identity.
Position Summary
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government policies, standards, practices, and procedures, as directed by the Director of ʔuuy̓ałuk̓ʷičʔaała (always looking after each other) - Health and Social Services. Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ. At Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government, our philosophy for care is based on wester medicine provided through an Indigenous lens to benefit the patients predominantly of the hitac̓u community. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is caring, compassionate, team player who is responsible for providing our patients with excellent routine care as well as collaborating within the allied health team on patient treatment and support. The LPN is required to work alone or with little supervision and must be flexible to work on a variable schedule. This is a 6 month term position with possibility of extension.
Primary Responsibilities
- Helping patients understand healthcare protocol and with other daily hygiene activities.
- Assisting patients with systemic, chronic, or acute conditions and providing the right avenue of referral to the patients in a coherent manner to aid healthcare delivery.
- Monitoring patients and completing ongoing assessments of their physical and mental health to be provided to referring physicians if required.
- Works with the Community Engagement Coordinator and Homecare Team and provides homecare monitoring and reporting.
- Administering medications and injections and keeping complete records of these activities.
- Communication with patients' families about condition of the patient and their care.
- Updating patient charts and recording observations of their condition.
- Communicating concerns about patient's overall health, treatment, etc. to the medical team.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as assigned.
Qualifications
Training, Education and Experience
- Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized program.
- Current LPN licensed and member in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position.
- Clinical experience in a First Nation setting would be a strong asset.
- Successful completion of (or willing to complete) the BCCDC Immunization Competency Course.
- Foot care certification.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Up-to-date immunizations and clear TB Test.
- Satisfactory criminal records check (vulnerable sector).
- Current Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and access to
