DEI Consulting Engineers Inc. (DEI) is a professional mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm providing services to architects and building owners in the building service industry since 1999. With a comprehensive list of completed projects ranging from residential, education, institutional, recreational, and commercial, DEI has the experience to provide full-service mechanical and electrical consulting for any development, building, or client.

Role Overview

DEI's goal is to hire a confident lead electrical engineer/designer with a minimum of ten years of experience completing electrical engineering in the building service industry.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Lead the design on projects with electrical construction values in excess of $1,000,000.
  • Respond to and win Requests for Proposals.
  • Provide technical direction to a minimum of 2 subordinates on a daily basis.
  • Integrate well into a multi-disciplinary team of both internal and external consultants.
  • Manage owner and client relationships.
  • Manage contractor relationships.
  • Conduct site reviews, manage change notices, etc.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Be knowledgeable in applicable building, OESC, NFPA, IES codes.
  • Take the lead on all technical design requirements for electrical systems including coordinating electrical services (and other services) for new construction, site photometric plans, electrical distribution design, fire alarm, generator (standby and life safety) designs, emergency and life safety systems, lighting and associated controls, and other electrical requirements to suit client standards and building classifications.
  • Select relevant equipment and review/verify design calculations for electrical systems required for the building.
  • Design a variety of mid or high rise residential, commercial, or institutional/educational buildings. Work will be a mixture of renovation and new construction.
  • Supervising a team of electrical junior staff including providing technical direction, conducting performance reviews, tracking staff progression, and coaching/mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), or Limited Engineering License/Technologist (LEL, LET).
  • Ten (10) plus years of electrical engineering experience in the building service industry.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and ability to deliver electrical designs for a variety of building types, including, but not limited to power and distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, life safety systems, generators, and other auxiliary systems such as IT, A/V, and communications.
  • Experience in educational buildings is preferred.
  • Experience in commercial, retail, residential, and/or health care/long term care buildings is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant Canadian and Ontario codes and standards (OBC, OESC, NFPA, IES, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage a team of electrical staff in the development and delivery of construction documentation and associated engineering calculations, coordination of electrical elements, and final verification of electrical design.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to think analytically, attention to detail, resourceful and detail-oriented, and team and customer service focused.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, architectural, and structural drawings and systems as it relates to construction and the implications on electrical designs.
  • Ability to effectively resolve construction issues, manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements.
