Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Embedded System Engineer Intern to join our innovative team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in embedded systems design and development.

The ideal candidate will work closely with experienced engineers on our product by playing a key role in embedded software development, software/hardware integration and customer support. More specifically, the project is focused on real-time implementation of efficient machine level codes that are optimized with respect to power consumption and processing latency. Another focus of the project is on the modem interfaces to assist our end users to have a straightforward interaction with our systems.

Position Criteria

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering (no exceptions)
  • Resident of HRM (only local candidates will be considered)
  • Ability to perform in a high-paced environment – especially during key deadlines
  • Physical ability to help transport equipment to test sites (equipment size and weight typically mimicking that of general electronics laboratory equipment)
  • Strong research and documentation skills
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status (no exceptions)

Technical Proficiencies

  • C/C++, MATLAB and Python embedded code development and real time execution (non-negotiable)
  • A good grasp of the principles of Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog (AD/DA) conversion and data buffer management
  • Excellent understanding of fundamental concepts in Signals and Systems and Probability theory, including but not limited to Fourier Transform, Nyquist Sampling Theorem, and Principles of Analog and Digital Modulation to name a few

Duties

  • Review and optimize existing code based on the languages stated in the Technical Proficiencies section
  • Optimize system performance, memory usage, and power consumption
  • Design and execute low-complexity interface for Marecomms' proprietary formats
  • Play an active role in our future sea trials and field tests
  • Build and maintain the most suitable operating platforms for our devices
  • Meticulous and detailed documentation writing of all work tasks, including guidance on reproducible experiments
  • Debug, monitor, and maintain the system after development
  • Occasionally participate in customer product review meetings to collect feedback as a basis for product improvement

Pay: $26.00-$35.00 per hour
