Position Overview

EmpowHERto is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Academic Advisor to guide and support girls aged 14-21 in exploring their academic and career pathways. The advisor will play a key role in helping participants identify their strengths, set educational goals, and develop actionable plans for their future.

Key Responsibilities

● Provide one-on-one and group advising sessions to help participants explore educational and career options.

● Assist girls in identifying suitable post-secondary programs, including colleges, universities, trade schools, and alternative career pathways.

● Offer guidance on application processes, scholarship opportunities, and financial planning for education.

● Support participants in setting realistic academic goals and creating personalized action plans.

● Conduct workshops on topics such as time management, study strategies, career exploration, and goal setting.

● Collaborate with EmpowHERto staff to align advising strategies with program objectives.

● Provide mentorship and encouragement to foster confidence in participants' academic and career decisions.

● Maintain records of advising sessions and track participants' progress.

Required Skills/Abilities:

● Background in academic advising, education, counselling, or related fields.

● Experience working with youth, particularly from minority or underserved communities.

● Strong knowledge of post-secondary education systems, application processes, and career pathways.

● Excellent communication, active listening, and mentorship skills.

● Ability to build positive relationships with participants and offer guidance in a supportive and empowering manner.
