Role Responsibilities:
The Director of Platform Engineering is a senior engineering leader accountable for defining, building, and operating the foundational technology platform that supports Zetron software products within the organization. This leader oversees teams that manage cloud infrastructure, developer tools, automation frameworks, and core platform services that product engineering teams rely on to deliver high quality software.
The Director ensures that these platforms are secure, scalable, and easy to use, and that they enable development teams to build, test, and release software with speed and reliability. The Director of Platform Engineering also serves as a contributing member of the Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) where they help guide engineering standards, architectural practices, and long-term technical direction.
Specifically, the Director of Platform Engineering will:
- Provide strategic leadership and accountability for all platform engineering functions, including cloud infrastructure and developer experience platform teams.
- Define the long-term vision for platform capabilities along with the platform roadmap and major investment priorities.
- Translate business goals into technical strategies that prioritize customer outcomes, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and security standards.
- Oversee the design and operation of secure cloud environments, infrastructure as code patterns, continuous integration and continuous delivery systems, developer tools, automation frameworks, and core shared services.
- Architect and evolve cloud platform (AWS) to support resilient, customer-facing services.
- Guide implementation of CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks that accelerate delivery while maintaining reliability and security.
- Ensure that platform services are reliable, scalable, cost efficient, and intuitive for product engineering teams to use through well-structured interfaces and self-service workflows.
- Drive organizational adoption of platform capabilities by providing consistent architectural patterns, reusable components, and clear engineering guardrails.
- Lead the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practice, ensuring Service Level Objectives (SLOs) are set & managed by product engineering teams & tooling is provided to ensure requirements are met.
- Serve as a key member of the Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) and contribute to the development of engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices.
- Partner with product & engineering leaders to understand platform requirements, prioritize enhancements, and ensure the platform effectively supports product delivery needs.
- Oversee platform operational readiness, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, disaster recovery planning, and continuous improvement.
- Drive adoption of advanced automation techniques to reduce toil and improve system health, with a focus on minimizing customer impact.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high performing platform engineering teams and lead all talent related decisions such as hiring, role definitions, skill development, and career growth.
- Manage budgets for platform engineering, including cloud resource management, cost optimization, and vendor relationships.
- Communicate platform strategy, progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and cross functional stakeholders.
Become part of our Team:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) are highly desirable.
- 10+ years in platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or DevOps roles.
- 5+ years in a leadership or managerial capacity, guiding technical teams in complex environments.
- Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), and monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, CloudWatch).
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) languages, including the use of Terraform for global scale architectures.
- Experience in implementing multi-cloud solutions.
- Strong technical judgement and ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to problem solving.
