Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada Walker Industries Full time

Working at Walker

At Walker, your contribution matters. Become part of a team you can count on and where your health and safety are our priority. Our team of more than 1200 people work in environmental waste management and recovery, renewable energy, paving and construction, aggregates, and emulsions chemistries. We are a fifth-generation, family-owned company founded in 1887, operating from our base in the Niagara Region with facilities across Canada and the United States. We care about the environment, each other, and our neighbours, and give back to our communities. Join us on our journey to build a sustainable future, together.

About the Job

Are you passionate about environmental stewardship and ready to make a real impact across multiple sites? We're looking for an Environmental Performance Business Partner to join our team and help drive environmental excellence across our operations.

Reporting directly to the Environmental Performance Manager, you'll act as a trusted advisor to facility leaders—providing both strategic insight and hands-on technical support. In this role, you'll help ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate programs, collaborate with government agencies, and contribute to long-term environmental performance and sustainability goals.

This is an ideal opportunity for an environmental professional who enjoys variety, collaboration, and the chance to influence operations at a strategic level.

Salary: $75,000–$80,000, based on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Partnering with facility teams to ensure compliance with corporate environmental policies, permits, and legislative requirements
  • Advising management on environmental risks, obligations, and best practices
  • Delivering and supporting environmental training programs (e.g., spills response, permit-required training, supervisor training)
  • Managing environmental monitoring programs and coordinating with internal teams and external consultants
  • Acting as a key liaison with government agencies on permits, approvals, inspections, and reporting
  • Preparing and submitting environmental applications, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Conducting Environmental Performance Reviews (audits) at facility locations
  • Supporting supervisors in developing and implementing corrective action plans following inspections
  • Assisting with environmental due diligence and onboarding for acquisitions
  • Monitoring emerging legislation and regulatory changes
  • Contributing to the development and execution of environmental and corporate strategic plans

Here's What You Need

  • College diploma or university degree in environmental science or a related field
  • Professional designation (C.E.T. or similar) is an asset
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (travel to sites required)
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental compliance or environmental science
  • Experience managing long-term environmental monitoring programs (excess soils, groundwater, surface water)
  • Strong technical writing skills, including drafting and reviewing environmental reports
  • Experience working with stakeholders such as government agencies, consultants, and the public
  • Experience with environmental permits and approvals (ECA, PTTW) is an asset
  • Familiarity with Adaptive Management Plans (AMPs), audits, or aggregates (pits and quarries) is an asset
  • Experience with compliance-based software (e.g., Dakota) is an asset
  • Relevant professional accreditations (OACETT, PGO, or equivalent) are desirable

What's in it for you

  • You become part of a team you can count on
  • A comprehensive total rewards package and benefits to support your wellbeing
  • Leaders who support your growth and success
  • Flexible work policies and strong work-life balance
  • Give back to our communities with two paid volunteer days annually and opportunities to become involved in events
