The Government of Yukon's Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services division is known for its innovative, holistic, trauma informed and culturally accessible approach to providing mental health and substance use supports to all Yukoners. We aim to provide clients with the highest level of care and a healthy workplace for staff. Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services offers a goal focused approach to providing harm-reduction or recovery-based services for all individuals seeking to reduce the symptoms of mental wellness and/or substance use issues. The Managed Alcohol Program is an innovative harm reduction initiative that provides a controlled supply of alcohol to individuals experiencing severe alcohol dependence and homelessness, aiming to improve their health and social stability.
Your role
This position supervises participants in the Mental Wellness and Substance Use (MWSU) Managed Alcohol Program in a 24-hour live-in harm reduction program. This position supports participants with emotional support, conflict resolution skills, programming, transportation, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including the supervision of participants taking their medications and prescribed alcohol doses. This position provides operational support through monitoring participant activities and assures health and safety throughout the facility and when in the community with participants. The program and staff are to embrace a harm reduction philosophy and provide compassionate and trauma informed care to some of our most vulnerable participants with severe Alcohol Use Disorder.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Experience supporting clients through skills such as recreational, vocational, life skills, daily living or educational programs.
- Experience providing client centered, strength based, trauma informed care to clients.
- Experience providing support to clients living with substance use, mental health and social issues in a live-in or shelter based setting.
- Experience with documentation and client records.
- Experience supporting clients with taking medication in a controlled environment will be considered an asset.

- A genuine interest to work with clients of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds; particularly Yukon First Nations, with a strong awareness of intergenerational trauma and cultural competency.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- TB Screening
- CPR & First Aid (completed within last 6-months)
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
- WHMIS 2015 (completed within 3 months of hire)
- Valid class 5 driver's license
- Food Safe
- Naloxone Training (within 1 month of hire)
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- The incumbent is exposed to intoxicated, emotional, angry, and sometimes physically abusive clients. This exposure occurs in the Managed Alcohol Program facility and outside the facility in public and isolated places. There is risk for infection, TB, Hepatitis C, HIV, blood products, cold and flu infections. PPEs are provided, such as gloves, masks, hygiene products, etc. to mitigate risks, and staff will be aware of and use Universal Precautions whenever dealing with bodily fluids.
- The incumbent will be exposed to cleaning products and expected to do lifting up to 50lbs, regular bending and moving of furniture for the purpose of cleaning.
- Incumbent will be required to use: computers, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers; recreational and sports equipment; vehicles, lawn mowers, and snow shovels. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as gloves, masks, and low-scent cleaners are provided to mitigate any dangers.
- Will require winter driving in Whitehorse.
- Hours of work include days, evenings and nights, and including weekends. Incumbent will be expected to remain awake during any night shifts.
- Incumbent may be required to work outdoors with a resident, during all seasons.
- Incumbent may experience interruptions from other staff, participants, other professionals and residents' family members. The incumbent will be provided assistance from the MAP Supervisor, as needed, to prioritize the workload.
