Job Summary
As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Clinical Extern is an unregulated healthcare provider who will be providing patient-centred care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Regulated Health Professional (RHP), while taking into account CNO guidance for unregulated care providers.
Qualifications and Experience
Must be enrolled in one of the following programs:
Registered Nurse (RN) Students enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate nursing program entering in any year of the Program; Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Students enrolled in an accredited nursing program in any year of the Program;Respiratory Therapy Students in their 2nd or 3rd year of study in accredited Respiratory Therapy Education administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists;Physiotherapy Students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada;Occupational Therapy Students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists;Paramedic Students in second year of an approved Paramedic Progam;Undergraduate Medical Students in their final year of a program of medical education leading to the MD degree;An official school transcript will be required if you are invited to be interviewed for this position for proof of enrollment;Current Vulnerable Sector Check;Current certificate in BLS required; andEvidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements.Skills and Abilities
Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, or regulated health professional (RHP) assigned to them, while taking into account CNO guidance for unregulated care providers;Works with the supervising RHP to ensure they have the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties, Provides assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting, and ambulating as per the hospital policy Under supervision, conduct patient assessments, measuring vital signs, assisting with ambulation and activities of daily living, completing documentation.Completing Basic Skin Care while being directly supervised by the RHP.Assisting patients where necessary during meals and assisting with feeding.Complete and maintain related records and documentation Observes patient assessments and participates as requested Demonstrates excellent assessment, communication, organization, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills.Demonstrates strong abilities to facilitate patient and family-centered care and establish therapeutic relationships.Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients, family and staff.Hours of Work: In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hour shifts).
We are looking to hire temporary part time, with the opportunity to work up to full time hours based on the candidate's availability. We have options to work a mastered line or flexible options to work around availability with a minimum commitment of working at least 1 shift per week.
