Manager, Facility Maintenance

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and strategic Manager, Facility Maintenance to lead the operations of our Maintenance Department. This role oversees staff, manages building systems and preventative maintenance programs, supports construction and renovation projects, and ensures the Centre remains safe, efficient, and fully operational. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with strong technical knowledge and building maintenance, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to facility management.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Maintenance Department, including supervising and coaching staff, setting and monitoring performance metrics—all while working effectively within a unionized environment and maintaining positive labour relations.
• Manage the Centre's preventative maintenance and repair programs for all building systems and equipment, ensuring timely work order completion, efficient use of resources, and minimal disruption to clients and events.
• Plan and manage construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects from initiation through completion, including budgeting, contractor coordination, reviewing technical drawings, and ensuring all work meets regulatory, operational, and quality standards.
• Monitor departmental budgets, procurement needs, and inventory of equipment and supplies, while also supporting energy management initiatives, emergency preparedness planning, and compliance with inspections and safety requirements.
• Maintain effective communication and collaboration with senior management, contractors, inspectors, operational teams, and external partners. Participate in Workplace Safety & Health Committee activities and contribute to Centre-wide planning and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 5-7 years experience in a leadership role within building maintenance, facility operations, or a related environment.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, facility operations, and relevant building codes and by-laws.
• Ability to apply for and sign electrical permits in accordance with City of Winnipeg requirements.
• Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, and related software.

Education Requirements

• Candidates must possess a Manitoba 5th Class Power Engineer's Certificate; higher classifications are an asset.
• Journeyperson Electrician license (required); must be able to sign City of Winnipeg electrical permits.
