The Opportunity
We are looking for a Mental Health Counsellor to join our Mental Health Team at CUPS.
CUPS Mental Health Counsellors are responsible for providing counselling and case management support for clients who access a CUPS program. You will provide individual and group counselling, complete outcome assessments and collaborate with internal and external resources as needed to support client goals. You will work in alignment with CUPS Theory of Change to support participants in their goals utilizing CUPS integrated care services to support participants' overall needs to maximize positive participant outcomes.

- Reports to: Program Manager, Mental Health Services
- Contract type: Permanent
- Schedule: Full-time, Mon to Fri, 37.5 hours per week
- Starting salary: $68, $71,938.00
Key Responsibilities
- Create an approachable, caring and trauma-informed environment for clients, guests, and colleagues.
- Operate in synergy with CUPS internal departments connecting clients to internal resources as desired and beneficial for the client and support accessing external resources when appropriate.
- Provide in-person and virtual individual and group counselling services to clients based on best practices and a high standard of clinical expertise.
- Assess and respond to client needs on a dynamic basis.
- Provide culturally aware support to CUPS clients, celebrating the diversity of clients and being aware of power dynamics of privilege and oppression that may be present.
- Develop a collaborative and growth-based relationship with the CUPS mental health program manager to discuss caseload management, performance, and client approach effectiveness via ongoing supervision.
- Participate in ongoing learning activities and share knowledge with colleagues in service to continuous improvement.
- Maintenance of professional regulatory body's ethics, competency, and developmental standards.
- Create, maintain, and update progress notes, consent forms, assessments and all other documentation required.
- Connect regularly with CUPS counselling colleagues to engage and support in team relationship building, peer learning and development, while engaging with leadership and CUPS clinical supervisor for ongoing practice reflection and development.
- Accurately enter all required data points in organizational and external databases (i.e. client contacts and outcome measures) and participating in program research as required.
Employment Requirements
- Master's degree in social work or psychology (or equivalent) with 2 years' experience in mental health counselling and currently registered, in good standing, with professional regulatory body.
- Working knowledge of the DSM 5.
What You Bring
- Previous experience working with clients experiencing poverty, food and housing insecurity, addictions, and the impacts of trauma an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and create therapeutic partnerships with participants who face systemic barriers to services.
- Beneficial experience and training include trauma therapies, addiction and harm reduction, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and group development and facilitation.
- Excellent case reporting and documentation, with knowledge and understanding of client service outcome tracking.
- Proficiency in Collaborative Health Record (CHR) electronic medical record considered an asset.
- Current CPR certificate an asset.
Work Conditions

- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, and sitting.
