We are looking for people who relate well with kids and adults are passionate about education and exotic animals to be public presenters in our outreach program.

Duties:

  • To help teach our out reach program - going to schools, daycares, private homes, festivals, libraries with 10 animals
  • To to able to speak to groups ranging from 10 to 200 people with confidence
  • To care for and manage animals in your care
  • To encourage a child's natural curiosity about animals and the natural world
  • To interact with the public and children of all ages in a positive way while presenting information
  • To work with animals of all kinds from spiders to small mammals, including lizards and snakes cleaning enclosures, feeding, grooming and stimulating animals
  • Follow instruction and guidance from supervisors
  • To drive company vehicles to locations around the Lower Mainland

Requirements:

Experience working with children in a classroom setting or day camp

Have a passion for teaching and a passion for animals

Must be able to pass a criminal records check and have a clean driving record

Must have a class 5 drivers license

Have knowledge of exotic animals - to be comfortable handling spiders, snakes, lizards etc. ( we will train you )

Have knowledge of biology and conservation concepts

Be able to teach those concepts to children and adults ( we will train you )

Have excellent public speaking skills - you will potentially be speaking to groups of 10 to 200 people in our outreach program. ( don't worry, we will train you )

  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Have genuine concern for the welfare of animals
  • Previous animal experience is helpful
  • Public speaking skills
  • High School graduate OR two years related experience
  • Positive interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Valid class 5 driver's license

  • a base knowledge and comfortable with exotic animals ( insects - arachnids - amphibians - reptiles - mammals )

  • has some formal education in biology, zoology, vet. assistant etc., or retired teacher is helpful

  • have an eye for detail

  • team player

  • positive and welcoming attitude - enjoys working with children

  • flexible and able to adapt to change

  • is available on weekends and week days

  • extensive training provided

Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
