Our Mission is to be a leader in the design, development and delivery of a sustainable and culturally appropriate continuum of housing for Indigenous people in Ontario.

We are currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer for any of our offices located in Sault Ste. Marie, Hamilton, Toronto or Ottawa, with other locations considered.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides overall strategic, cultural, and executive leadership to Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) in accordance with the organization's mandate and the direction of the Board of Directors. The CEO is accountable for organizational performance, financial stewardship, governance support, and external relations, while fostering a strong, values-based culture and advancing Indigenous-led housing solutions across Ontario.

The CEO leads with a future-focused, outward-facing orientation, working in close partnership with the Senior Executive Circle (SEC), which functions as the organization's senior operational leadership body.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Strategic Leadership

·Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor OAHS' strategic plan;

·Serve as the primary advisor to the Board on organizational performance, risks, and strategic opportunities;

·Ensure the Board is kept fully informed of material issues affecting the organization;

·Uphold sound governance practices and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and accountability requirements.

Executive & Organizational Leadership

·Model and maintain an organizational culture that is compassionate and operationally rigorous;

·Provide leadership to the Senior Executive Circle (SEC) and foster a high-performing, values-driven organization;

·Support the SEC in translating strategic priorities into coordinated operational execution;

·Recruit, develop, and evaluate senior leadership positions;

·Act as Chief Culture Officer, setting the tone for a workplace grounded in Indigenous values, trust, wellbeing, and accountability.

Financial Stewardship & Risk Oversight

·Provide executive oversight of annual budgets and long-term financial planning;

·Ensure effective financial controls, risk management practices, and responsible use of public funds;

·Monitor organizational performance against approved plans and budgets, with regular reporting to the Board.

Programs & Operational Accountability

·Maintain executive accountability for the effective delivery of housing programs and services aligned with OAHS's mandate;

·Approve organization-wide policies, frameworks, and systems that enable consistent, efficient operations;

·Delegate operational leadership to the SEC, while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

External Relations & Advocacy

·Serve as the primary external representative of OAHS with governments, funders, Indigenous partners, and sector stakeholders;

·Advocate for Urban / Rural Indigenous housing priorities and participate in policy dialogue and system-level initiatives;

·Build and sustain collaborative relationships that advance OAHS's strategic and community goals.

Representation & Accountability

·Act as an Officer of the Corporation and fulfill fiduciary and statutory obligations under applicable legislation;

·Represent OAHS at provincial, national, and international forums, or delegate representation as appropriate.

 Qualifications & Experience

·University degree in Business, Public Administration, or a related discipline;

·Extensive senior leadership experience in a complex organization;

·Strong understanding of the diversity of Indigenous cultures, with a demonstrated commitment to Indigenous-led approaches;

·Proven experience in strategic leadership, financial oversight, and governance;

·Demonstrated ability to lead executive teams and influence organizational culture;

·Excellent communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills;

·High standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism;

·Experience in social housing, community development, or a related public-interest sector is considered an asset;

·Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal housing programs and funding, transfer payment agreements, contribution agreements, covenants, operating subsidies, and how policy shifts impact long-term viability;

·Solid working knowledge of construction financing, loan terms, debt service ratio (DSR), contingencies, refinancing risk, balance sheets and asset management.

Conditions of Employment

·Ability to travel extensively;

·Flexibility to work varied hours as required;

·Valid Criminal Record Check (CPIC);

·Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle;

·Must be bondable, if required.
