We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated 
Power Plant Operator
 to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our power plant facilities. This role is ideal for a seasoned Heavy Equipment Mechanic or technically strong operator who thrives in a high-growth environment with minimal supervision and who can meaningfully contribute to operational performance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Power Plant Supervisor, the Power Plant Operator is responsible for the effective daily operation of the power plant. This includes monitoring and analyzing equipment data, maintaining accurate logs, identifying issues, and performing both preventative and corrective maintenance to maximize plant uptime. The role ensures all plant operations and maintenance activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Envest policies, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plant Operations

· Operate the power plant efficiently using the SCADA system and monitor real-time data to identify abnormalities or deficiencies.

· Complete daily logs, equipment readings, and operational reports.

· Conduct daily walkdowns and inspections of all equipment and systems.

· Ensure the plant is maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

· Perform immediate, corrective, and preventative maintenance on plant equipment.

· Diagnose and troubleshoot issues impacting plant performance, capacity, or reliability.

· Maintain an accurate inventory of parts, tools, and consumables.

· Plan, schedule, and document maintenance activities, including logging equipment performance data.

Technical & Administrative Support

· Act as a subject matter expert in plant operations, collaborating with colleagues to maximize plant uptime.

· Assist the Supervisor with daily, monthly, and annual KPI analysis and reporting.

· Support the upkeep of safety documentation, maintenance records, and operational logs.

· Stay current with technological advancements and industry practices.

Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination

· Communicate with Envest customers during plant interruptions or planned maintenance.

· Interact with equipment vendors and service providers as required.

· Participate in team meetings to resolve operational issues and share best practices.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S)

· Adhere to all Envest safety policies and required PPE practices.

· Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations.

· Promote continuous improvement in both leading and lagging safety indicators.

Other Requirements

· Respond to alarms within one hour of call-out.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

· Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and industrial conditions requiring PPE.

· Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs., bending, carrying tools/equipment, and prolonged physical activity.

· Must be able to work overtime, on-call rotations, and flexible hours as needed.

· Moderate impact on family/social life due to operational demands.

· Occasional travel to various Envest locations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education & Credentials

· Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Ontario Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Experience

· Minimum 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and/or working with power generation or industrial equipment.

· Strong working knowledge of power plant operations, including SCADA and PLC-based control systems.

· Experience reading and interpreting prints, drawings, and technical bulletins.

· Experience working in an industrial environment with strong health & safety practices.

Technical Skills

· Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting abilities.

· Ability to diagnose mechanical and operational issues independently.

· Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and OEM software programs.

Preferred Qualifications

· Truck and/or Heavy Equipment Mechanic License.

· College or trade school education in industrial engine, diesel, or gas engine mechanics.

· Experience with electrical generation equipment or utility operations.

· Prior experience supporting environmental, health, and safety compliance.
