About the role:

As an Insurance Trainer, you will design, develop, and deliver training programs and resources that enhance employee and broker knowledge, skills, and performance. This role ensures learning content is engaging, accessible, and aligned with business objectives. You will also maintain learning systems, collaborate across departments, and stay current with industry trends and best practices to support organizational growth. This position requires approximately 20% travel to different locations within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with occasional travel to Hamilton for in-person training sessions.

What you'll be doing:

Training Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging training materials on brokerage workflows, insurance products, underwriting guidelines, leadership skills, and soft skills across multiple delivery formats (in-class, online, and on-demand).
  • Supplement training by developing effective learning aids such as self-paced training materials, job aids, and instructional videos.
  • Simplify complex insurance information, including policy wordings and endorsements, by developing clear, concise, and engaging training materials for diverse audiences.
  • Deliver comprehensive training programs for software applications like EPIC, tailored to users of all skill levels.
  • Consult business partners in Insurance to develop training programs and select the most effective and appropriate instructional methods/materials to reinforce the participants' learning and enhance knowledge retention.
  • Create role-based test case data, assignments, and simulation scripts that align with business processes and test scenarios.

Training Delivery & Facilitation

  • Engage participants with energetic and dynamic presentations using a variety of instructional techniques and formats.
  • Facilitate onboarding and provide training/resources to help new hires integrate into company culture and transition into their roles.
  • Facilitate the delivery of training and support materials to all employees and brokers during any company-wide system conversions, operational changes, product updates / launches, policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and facilitate live broker learning and coaching sessions when needed.
  • Organize regular sessions with carriers and industry partners.
  • Ensure training sessions are recorded and made available for use by the company.
  • Upload relevant industry-related information and materials to SharePoint.
  • Measure and evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, performance metrics, and business outcomes.
  • Identify gaps in learner performance based on observation and assessments.
  • Communicate issues and performance gaps to learner's manager.

Content & System Management

  • Maintain and update existing LMS content (MIB University, training manuals, and job aids)
  • Develop technical documentation, assignment steps, and knowledge articles from system test cases, workflows, or process maps.
  • Apply inclusive, plain language, user-centered design standards to all structured documentation and SharePoint content.

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Serve as a resource for all departments and the Learning & Development team, supporting training initiatives.
  • Partner with the HR team, Operations, and cross-functional teams to assess training needs across our departments and support functions.
  • Ability to travel to other office locations across the Greater Toronto Area.

Industry Knowledge & Networking

  • Monitor, assess, and interpret the marketplace and demographic trends to keep abreast of market issues and product needs.
  • Ability to network and create strong relationships. Actively participate in industry events and broker functions from time to time in relation to business development.
  • Stay current on insurance industry developments, L&D best practices, and training trends, techniques, and activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal claims procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

What we need you to bring:

  • College or University level Degree/Undergraduates Degree in Business or Insurance or comparable experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Training/Development experience in general insurance brokerage (preferred).
  • R.I.B.O (Level I) License is considered an asset.
  • CIP or CAIB Certification or working towards its completion is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with EPIC is considered an asset.
  • Experience creating and delivering training materials and job aids, spanning an array of subject matters from soft skills to technical material.
  • Proficient with insurance policy systems as well as MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong knowledge of Personal and Commercial Insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of internal and external tools with the context of training delivery specific to these tools and/or connectivity between internal and external tools.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, and training evaluation.
